GMC Hummer EV Pickup is a real brute even in Interstellar White!

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s brawny character feels impossible to cloak in any color, even in the clean Interstellar White paint. I’ve come to realize after seeing it several times in person that the extreme electric pickup truck looks menacing in every color and from every angle!

GM may have several spectacular luxobarges like the Cadillac Celestiq and Cadillac Escalade IQ in its portfolio, but none have led to a surge of curiosity and held me in awe quite like the GMC Hummer EV Pickup. Along with its insane dimensions and intense front-end, this badass supertruck makes heads turn with its snazzy daytime running lights placed in not slim strips but big, rectangular modules stretching across the width, oversized, 35-inch tires, and removable roof panels that essentially make it a convertible.

All lighting elements of the Hummer EV (headlights, taillights, lights in truck bed, and high mounted stop lights) are shaped in the letter ‘H’, which might not be seen in pictures, but was obvious when I viewed the truck up close.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a payload capacity of 1,300 lbs, but I imagine that those buying this truck aren’t doing it for hauling lumbar or building materials.

When I sat in the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, I was keen to operate the 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system displaying 18 different camera views of the exterior, including the underbody. The graphics of this system and the 12.3-inch instrument cluster were like those of a high-end console game. In the driver’s seat, the massive center console and the distance from the passenger seat served as a constant reminder of its dimensions. As for the bed, I liked its MultiPro Tailgate, which has six load/access features.

The CrabWalk feature of the GMC Hummer EV shows the four-wheel directional steering capability of the electric pickup. GM says this feature is tailor-made for off-roading and calls it industry-leading. This electric truck uses the Unreal Engine for its digital cockpit, making it the first vehicle from GM’s lineup to use the system. The interior is quite different from the Cybertruck, which is clean and minimalist.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup gets its bragging rights from the Ultium powertrain’s performance and capabilities. The range-topping Edition 1 trim pictured in this story sports a triple-motor powertrain that produces 1,000 horsepower and lets it accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just about three seconds! It has a massive, 212.7 kWh battery pack that gives it a GM-est. range of 329 miles.

An adaptive air suspension that comes with an ‘Extract Mode’ can raise the GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s height by nearly 6 inches above normal height to increase ground clearance and drive over big rocks or ford water with ease. The electric pickup truck has a four-wheel steering system with a ‘Crab Walk’ feature to allow diagonal driving at low speeds in tricky off-road situations.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup costs USD 108,700 in this particular Edition 1 (excl. USD 1,595 destination fee). However, it’s no longer available to order in the range-topping grade. Currently, the 2X and 3X grades are on sale, priced at USD 96,550 and USD 104,650, respectively, excluding USD 2,295 DFC.

GM manufactures the GMC Hummer electric truck at the Factory ZERO plant in Detroit (Michigan), USA, which was opened on November 17, 2021.
