The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is the most rugged electric SUV money can buy in the U.S. market. Of the four grades introduced in 2021 – 2, 2X, 3X, and Edition 1, the launch edition was the first to arrive at GMC dealers. Painted in the communication color ‘Moonshot Green Matte,’ I think this 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is the most determined and intimidating that an electric SUV can get!
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV sits on a special electric truck platform internally called BT1, and in this top-of-the-line Edition 1 grade, sports an 830 hp triple-motor powertrain. It’s a mammoth of a vehicle, be it in terms of shape, dimensions, or weight. Yet, it takes just about 3.5 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint.
What’s more, it can be driven diagonally, and its suspension can be lifted by approximately six inches. After all, crazy-fast acceleration is only a bonus; the most defining characteristic of a Hummer is its sheer capability to tread into and extract out of the trickiest of tricky off-road trails.
The battery pack of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 operates at double the normal EV voltage – 800 volts, and it can be charged at up to 300 kW. When hooked to a 350 kW DC charger, it can add nearly 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.
On a full charge, it delivers an EPA-est. range of 314 miles. However, the high energy consumption of 63 kWh/100 mi (EPA-est.) seems to contradict the fundamental environmental-saving purpose of an EV, in my opinion!
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 features a massive frunk, 22-inch wheels, aluminum fixed side steps, and a power swing gate. Inside, it has 12-way power front bucket seats with 4-way lumbar support and heating, ventilation, and memory functions.

Another interior highlight is a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, navigation capability, and Google Built-in compatibility. My favorite feature is ‘Infinity Roof’ – removable glass panels that allow customers to transform the model into an open-top SUV.

Manufactured at the Factory Zero assembly plant that straddles two Michigan cities – Detroit and Hamtramck, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV retails at USD 104,000 (excl. USD 1,595 destination charge) in the Edition 1 grade. Currently available only in the 2X and 3X grades, it is priced at USD 96,550 and USD 104,650, respectively. The destination charge levied on their MSRPs is much higher – USD 2,295.
