Update: ‘Price & Release Date’ section revised.
The Polestar O₂ concept revealed in Los Angeles in March 2022 has received the green signal for launch. The production electric roadster derived from the show car, named Polestar 6, will go on sale at the end of 2026. Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar, refers to it as the “cherry on top of the cake” of the first round of Polestar launches.
Design & Interior
The Polestar O₂ is a funky little hard-top convertible that embodies the brand’s design language that debuted in the Polestar Precept concept in 2020. The 6, its production version, will have the same roof configuration, Polestar has confirmed. With a low and wide body, a compact 2+2 cabin, a long wheelbase, and short overhangs, the electric roadster will look like a classic sports car. However, the bold design elements drawn from the O₂ (and thus the Precept) will give it a very futuristic styling.
Inside, the 6 could feature sustainably produced innovative materials that are further recyclable and in line with its concept of circularity. We expect a two-spoke steering wheel, a 15-inch portrait touchscreen, a free-standing digital instrument cluster, and ultra-wide, slim AC vents integrated into a low-profile dashboard as well.
Specifications
The Polestar 6 will sit on a modified version of the Polestar 5’s bespoke bonded aluminum platform, developed at the Polestar UK R&D center situated in Coventry, England. It will share even an in-house developed 800-volt battery pack with the electric sedan. At the Polestar Night event held in New York on December 1, 2021, the company revealed that it is developing a 22 kW bidirectional onboard charger for the Polestar 3 and Polestar 5. There’s no doubt that the company wouldn’t offer the same onboard charger in the 6.
The range-topping 6 will sport two motors producing 650 kW (871 hp) and 900 Nm (664 lb.-ft.) of torque. Polestar is targeting a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The range of the production model, in the WLTP cycle, will exceed 600 km (373 miles), Polestar has confirmed.
Price & Release Date
The Polestar 6 will cost USD 200,000 (indicative price) in its launch edition, called LA Concept. The Polestar 6 LA Concept edition will feature the unique ‘Sky’ blue paint, light leather interior, and unique 21-inch wheels of the concept version.
Polestar limited the sales of the LA Concept edition to 500 units, with customer deliveries expected to commence towards the end of 2026. Interested customers were able to secure a build slot with a fully refundable reservation fee of USD 25,000. Reservations have closed, but interested customers can join a waiting list to grab the opportunity in case a reserved slot becomes available.
In a recent development, Polestar has confirmed that it will not restrict production of the 6, and will be happy to sell the electric roadster to anyone who wants it. The company hasn’t offered more details, but the extended production units could differ from the initial LA Concept edition.
Polestar’s CFO Johan Malmqvist, said on May 11, 2023, that in response to the challenging macro environment, the company has decided to forego adding about 800 planned roles for this year, returning to the 2022 employee count of about 3,000. While implementing cost-saving measures, the company is also ensuring the continued engineering development of the Polestar 6 and Polestar 5.
We are undertaking a wide range of additional actions, while at the same time safeguarding the development of Polestar 5 and Polestar 6.

TopElectricSUV says
The 6 will be the brand’s next halo model following the Polestar 1 made in limited volumes between 2019 and 2021. The four-seat roadster gets taut proportions, a charming design, and high performance comparable to the next-gen Tesla Roadster. With the launch scheduled in late 2026, it could be packing a few surprises not seen on other Polestar models, including the Polestar 5 that’s due in late 2024.
