Volvo Cars plans to introduce two new powertrain options in the United States in four models – XC60, V90 Cross Country, S60, and S90 – with the MY2022 update. They are the B5 and B6 electrified powertrains which the company announced in February 2019 and already uses in the global markets.
‘B’ badged powertrains feature brake-by-wire energy recovery and provide up to 15% fuel savings and emission reductions in real-world conditions. Globally, the ‘B’ powertrain family includes B4 gasoline mild-hybrid, B4 diesel mild-hybrid, B5 gasoline mild-hybrid, B5 mild-hybrid diesel, and B6 mild-hybrid gasoline units.
The 2022 XC60 and 2022 Volvo S60 will be available in the U.S. with a B5 powertrain, most likely the 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit that produces 184 kW of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The B6 powertrain will be available in the 2022 XC60, 2022 V90 Cross Country, and 2022 S90. It should be the 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged gasoline unit that develops 220 kW of maximum power and 420 Nm of peak torque. Do note that these are the international specifications, and the U.S. specifications may vary.

Volvo Cars hasn’t disclosed the equipment and pricing of the B5 and B6 mild-hybrid models in the U.S. The company may announce the new models by the end of this quarter (September 2021). The 2022 Volvo XC60 will be the facelifted version of the midsize luxury SUV, and it is already on sale in other regions like Europe and China.
