The second-gen Volvo XC60 is nearly a decade old, but it will stay on sale longer than usual. As with its larger sibling, the XC90, Volvo Cars is preparing another facelift for it to continue running alongside the all-electric EX60.
We experienced the latest model last year, and here’s everything we know about the upcoming 2027 Volvo XC60:
Design
The Volvo XC60 may not be the boldest or sportiest model in its segment, but it still has the elegance and understated dynamism customers expect from the Swedish brand. Volvo Cars presented a subtle refresh in February 2025, and recent spy photos confirm the same approach for the second facelift, as portrayed in our exclusive renderings.
The new Volvo XC60’s headlamps look narrower than on the current model, while their inward extensions could be wider, larger, and positioned higher. These sections should connect more cleanly with the upper grille, which will likely feature a reshaped frame.
The bumper is expected to be reprofiled, with boxier vertical air curtains at the corners. The lower air intake should retain a broad horizontal layout, but with a cleaner surround and minor changes to the detailing.
On the sides, Volvo Cars should offer multiple new alloy wheel options in 18-, 19-, 20-, 21-, and 22-inch sizes. The rear may come with changes such as tweaked tail light graphics and a restyled bumper.
Interior
The interior of the new Volvo XC60 should feature design changes to the dashboard, steering wheel, and center console. We expect several new choices for upholstery and decor elements, with some of the tech and components developed for the EX60 trickling into the XC60.
Volvo Cars may take this opportunity to introduce its new HuginCore central compute system in the XC60. This could allow the company to add new features in infotainment, safety, and driver assistance.
The new XC60 may feature an 11.4-inch forward-positioned digital instrument cluster instead of the outgoing model’s conventionally positioned 12.3-inch unit. Instead of the 11.2 portrait touchscreen infotainment system, it could come with a 15.04-inch landscape unit, featuring OLED technology and Google Gemini.
On the safety front, Volvo Cars may introduce multi-adaptive safety belts for the driver and front passenger. The new seat belts adjust to the size, shape, and seating position of the occupants. They also take into account the speed and angle of a crash while setting the belt load.
Specifications
The new Volvo XC60 will likely be offered in the U.S. in mild- and plug-in hybrid variants featuring powertrains based on a 2.0-liter gas engine in turbocharged or turbocharged and supercharged versions.
In 2025, Volvo Cars debuted its second-gen plug-in hybrid system based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine in the all-new XC70. The China-focused PHEV boasts an electric range of up to 212 km (132 miles) and a total range of up to 1,203 km (748 miles), both as per CLTC.
A report Automotive News published in June 2026 said that the new XC60 plug-in hybrid may also have an electric range of close to 100 miles. This sparked speculation in the media that Volvo Cars could be planning to introduce its second-gen plug-in hybrid system in the XC60 with the upcoming refresh.
Volvo Cars appears to have ruled out that possibility for the immediate future, though. At the Strategy Update 2025 event, when asked by an analyst if the company will offer its second-gen plug-in hybrid system in the XC60, Chief Strategy and Product Officer Michael Fleiss said:
First let us upgrade that car, and then we will see if we bring a second generation PHEV to that one also.

While Volvo Cars Chief Commercial Officer Erik Severinson reiterated that the company will invest in a next-generation plug-in hybrid system at its U.S. factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina, we feel the XC60 upgrade could continue with the current PHEV system, with a larger battery.
Volvo Cars plans to start manufacturing the XC60 in both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants at the American plant in late 2026. Currently, the XC60 plug-in hybrid delivers an EPA-estimated electric range of 36 miles and an EPA-estimated total range of 560 miles.
Release Date
Whatever the powertrain strategy, we should know Volvo’s plans for the 40, 60, and 90 series in its announcement at the end of the summer.

The new Volvo XC60’s arrival should coincide with the start of U.S. production in late 2026/early 2027. U.S. dealerships may start receiving the new XC60 as an MY2027 vehicle beginning in the first quarter of next year.
We are very deliberate on how we are competing in U.S. right now in terms of price, in terms of models and also looking into the future, bringing more local production into the United States with the XC60 production coming online at the end of this year, early next year, will be very important for that market.

Prices of the new XC60 could start at around USD 52,000 for the mild-hybrid variant and around USD 65,000 for the plug-in hybrid variant.
