The Volvo EX90 drips elegance in this Mulberry Red shade

As per the Volvo Cars U.S Newsroom, sales of the EX90 have crossed 1,200 units since deliveries began late last year, and it is building momentum. The North American-spec EX90 is manufactured in Charleston, South Carolina, and reached U.S. customers later than planned due to software refinements. We first got to see the car in Washington early last year, and felt it was a well thought-out SUV.

The model featured in this story is in the Twin Performance RHD 6-seater spec, which we got to examine closely at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2025 this week. Finished in the Mulberry Red color, it is imported from the second facility which makes the electric crossover – Chengdu, China.

Mulberry Red is a deep, blackish-red with sparkling highlights, and it shimmered under the lights of the auto show floor. I would recommend this to buyers who want a bold, elegant shade that stands out in sunlight. It would be interesting to park it next to a Rolls Royce Cullinan finished in Madeira Red to see how similar the two colors are. Crystal White, Silver Dawn, and Vapour Grey are for the EX90 buyers who feel less adventurous!

No matter how many times I’ve seen it, or from what angle or color, the Volvo EX90 still feels like a refined XC90. It’s cleaner and more high-tech, but the resemblance is clear, and I don’t see that as a bad thing. Its 0.29 Cd drag coefficient is similar to the regular crossover. The roof bump hides a LiDAR sensor for the advanced autonomous driving system, which is standard on every EX90.

Inside, the EX90 features a futuristic lounge-style design with a compact dashboard, slim instrument cluster, and large 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen. Android Automotive OS supports Google apps, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, 5G, OTA updates, and uses Unreal Engine for advanced 3D visuals.

Sustainable elements include FSC-certified wood, Nordico bio-resin upholstery, wool-blend seats, and recycled materials. Interior “rooms” offer calming color themes. Standard SunLike LEDs replicate natural sunlight to reduce eye strain, providing a comforting atmosphere through 72 strategically placed lights.

In the U.S., the Volvo EX90 comes in Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance variants. The Twin Motor delivers 300 kW (402 hp) and 568 lb-ft., accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The Twin Motor Performance, which is featured in this article, boosts output to 380 kW (510 hp) and 671 lb-ft., cutting the 0-60 mph time to 4.7 seconds. Both variants are limited to a top speed of 112 mph, and offer up to 310 miles of range (EPA method).
