To be offered exclusively in the long-wheelbase, three-row version in the U.S., the 2025 VW ID. Buzz is making appearances at various public events ahead of its launch. Recently, I saw a unit painted in the Cabana Blue color on display and took the opportunity to explore its design, space, and features.
Design & Features

The VW ID. Buzz features an emotional and funky design and has a unique exterior that promises to create buzz (pun intended) wherever it goes. I think I’ve never been as excited about a people mover as much as I am for the 2025 ID. Buzz, and that’s mostly because of its charming character. The design, particularly in this dual-tone finish, is so distinct that it subtly conveys it’s a modern reinvention of a classic.
I like the oversized brand logo, which features backlighting, the 20-inch aero wheels, and the narrow headlights and tail lights of the 2025 ID. Buzz. The air “vents” on the D-pillar remind me of the slots on the original Bus to cool its rear engine.
Interior

I think the 2025 VW ID. Buzz has a warm and inviting interior, thanks to light-colored upholstery and faux wood inserts, a gigantic panoramic sunroof, and a long wheelbase. The largest sunroof across Volkswagen Group brands allows plenty of natural light into the cabin and enhances the feeling of sitting in a spacious vehicle. Plus, it can be changed from transparent to opaque when it’s too sunny outside. A 2+3+2 seating layout will be standard, and a 2+2+2 seating layout will be optional. The latter includes captain’s chairs in the second row.
The 2025 ID. Buzz has a long list of standard features:
- Heated windshield washer nozzles
- Power-folding and heated ORVMs
- Power tailgate with Easy Open and Close
- 12-way power driver and passenger seats with dual armrests, ventilation, massage, and memory functions
- Heated steering wheel
- 9-speaker audio system
- Climatronic automatic climate control system
- IQ.DRIVE ADAS with Level 2 hands-free driving capability
- Dynamic Road Sign Display
- 30-color ambient lighting system

Volkswagen hasn’t announced, but a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system are also expected to be standard. The latter integrates climate functions in the bottom of the display and features illuminated touch sliders to adjust the speaker volume and AC temperature.
Specifications
The 2025 VW ID. Buzz will be available in 282 hp single-motor RWD and 330 hp dual-motor AWD variants, both with an 82 kWh (net) battery pack. Volkswagen has revealed that the 2025 ID. Buzz has a top speed of 99 mph, but the company hasn’t confirmed whether this figure applies to both variants or only the dual-motor AWD variant. The company expects the electric microbus to deliver a range of 260 miles in the single-motor RWD variant and 252 miles in the dual-motor AWD variant.

Release date
Officially, the 2025 VW ID. Buzz is coming to U.S. dealers in the Fall of 2024. While there is no confirmation, I get the sense that the Germans are pushing for an earlier release, and are also pondering over localizing the vehicle in the future model year to qualify for federal tax credits. My prediction is that the electric minivan would be priced at around USD 60,000.
