Next-gen Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Hybrid to be launched this June: Report

  • Will be the fourth generation of the Alphard and third generation of the Vellfire
  • Will share the TNGA-K platform with the Sienna
  • Will be more premium and expensive than the Sienna
  • Expected to be made in LHD as well, but won't be offered in the U.S.

Having been around for eight years, Toyota’s executive minivans, the Alphard and Vellfire, are preparing to undergo a full redesign. With this update, the former will enter its fourth generation, and the latter its third. The electrified next-gen Toyota Alphard and the next-gen Toyota Vellfire will release in Japan, their first market worldwide, on June 6, 2023, Best Car Web reported on March 21, 2023.

Positioning

The Alphard/Vellfire duo has been typically been more expensive than the Sienna, something we’ve observed in Taiwan, China, and other countries where Toyota offers both American and Japanese models. That positioning should remain unchanged when these minivans move to their next generation.

Design

The design of the Alphard and Vellfire are usually a closely guarded secret. We believe, however, that history will repeat itself, with the designers coming up with an even bolder and more aggressive front end, a familiar side profile, and a dramatic rear end. The next-gen Vellfire may have a sportier grille with more darkened trim pieces instead of chrome and split headlamps.

Specifications

The 2023 Toyota Alphard and 2023 Toyota Vellfire will likely be based on the TNGA-K platform, which underpins a multitude of Toyotas, from the humble Camry/RAV4 to the swanky new Crown. The new platform may bring improvements like reduced NVH levels, increased passenger space, and enhanced driving dynamics.

We’re hoping engineers give more attention to the third-row seats, which show room for improvement in the outgoing models, a view that’s also shared by Best Car Web in a report dated March 15, 2023. Depending on the variant, power is expected to come from either a non-electrified 2.4-liter turbocharged engine or a hybrid powertrain that uses a 2.5-liter engine along with a pair of electric motors.

TopElectricSUV says

Like their predecessors, the next-gen Toyota Alphard and next-gen Toyota Vellfire will be premium minivans largely targeted at Asian markets. The Toyota Sienna will continue being the brand’s sole offering in the segment in the U.S.

This page will be revised as new information surfaces.
