Next-gen 2026 Toyota RAV4 reportedly hybrid-only; Base & Adventure grades planned

Toyota released the first teasers of the next-gen RAV4 earlier this week, confirming that the sixth-gen model will be revealed on May 20. While Toyota didn’t explicitly mention ‘RAV4’ in the teaser campaign, it’s evident that the company is referring to the future of its compact SUV, of which more than 475,000 units were sold in America last year.

Japanese outlet BestCar’s editorial department has learned that Toyota will only introduce electrified versions of the next-gen RAV4. With no gas models like the 2025 Camry, the 2026 RAV4 is expected to launch as a hybrid, followed by the plug-in hybrid version. Previously, Best Car ALSO reported about an all-electric RAV4 as well, which is a possibility now given that the TNGA-K architecture has been successfully modified for BEVs, starting with the Lexus ES Electric in 2026.

BestCar adds that the new RAV4 will come in Base and Adventure versions, and excitingly, a Toyota RAV4 GR Sport is to follow. These variants are expected to feature an improved 2.5-liter Dynamic Force engine with revised motors, batteries, and electronics for higher refinement, efficiency, and all-road capability.

Meanwhile, Toyota issued an exclusive teaser on its global Facebook and Instagram channels, and all signs point to the Adventure trim. The image shows a rugged interior with snow-covered goggles, ski poles, and the phrase “Life is an Adventure” etched into the gear, with a metallic finish around the climate control panel, and a neon key below the hazard lamp switch.

The dashboard features a bold, geometric design with water-resistant materials and textured surfaces, suited for harsh conditions. A wide infotainment screen, which we’ve seen in earlier teasers, sits high up on the dash, and the outer air conditioning vents are slimmer.

As we’ve reported earlier, teasers confirm that Toyota has reimagined the interior of the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid. The dashboard has a horizontal orientation, with a squared-off digital gauge cluster that looks customizable. The steering wheel is new, with a squarer horn pad, and what look like more ergonomic controls on either side. The center console has been revamped with parallel pathways for car controls and storage, and the gear selector has a sleek, electronic shaver-like design.

Although the exterior has not been teased, spy shots confirm that new model looks tougher, boxier, and built for outdoor use. It features a ‘perforated’ grille, Y-shaped crease on the side profile, and a redesigned rear with sportier details. It should continue with single and dual-tone paint options, and we also expect the Woodland Edition to be part of the 2026 U.S. model lineup.
