14 New features that we spot in the 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Toyota has revealed the fully redesigned RAV4 Hybrid for the 2026 model year, which will reach U.S. dealers later this year. The sixth generation of America’s best-selling compact SUV comes with a revised platform, new displays, brand new software, improved efficiency, better safety, and a wider selection of variants. Pricing will be revealed closer to the on-sale date.

Here are 14 important new features in the hybrid variant:

1. Revamped Exterior Design

While it retains the exact same length, width, height, and wheelbase as the 2025 model, the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid gets a complete redesign with a new hammerhead front-end across all Core, Sport, and Rugged styles. Larger fender flares, chiseled door panels, and new LED tail lamps give it a more planted and modern look.

2. New Styling Grades

The 2026 RAV4 comes in seven grades, including a restyled Woodland and an all-new GR Sport (PHEV). Each adopts its own design elements, including unique wheels, grille inserts, roof rails, and exterior accents.

3. Fifth-gen Hybrid Powertrain (THS 5)

Toyota has upgraded the RAV4 Hybrid to the fifth-generation system which debuted in the 2025 Camry. The 2.5L AWD version makes 236 hp (up from 219 hp). It comes with an improved transaxle, power control unit, and battery.

4. FWD Option

FWD is now available for the first time, delivering 226 hp, on the LE, XLE, and SE trims. This improves affordability and gives buyers more options depending on their use case. All hybrid models use a 2.5-liter engine and two-motor setup.

5. Larger Towing Capacity

Select AWD hybrid models, including the Woodland, SE, XSE, Limited, and XLE, can tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s a major bump from the 2025 Hybrid’s 1,750-pound limit.

6. Better Woodland Edition

The Woodland Edition returns with higher ground clearance, all-terrain tires, split grille, integrated LED lights, and a rear activity mount. It’s now more capable for off-road duty and will only be offered with AWD.

7. Improved Ride & Handling

Built on the updated TNGA-K platform, Toyota says that the RAV4 gets enhanced frame rigidity and improved suspension mounting points. New adhesives are expected to reduce micro-vibrations and road noise.

8. Redesigned Cabin

The interior looks more organized. The touchscreen, drive mode selector, and HVAC controls sit close together. A shift-by-wire system with a toggle-style gear selector is added to higher trims for a cleaner center console.

9. Larger, Smarter Displays

All models get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Depending on the grade, you get a 10.5-inch or a 12.9-inch infotainment display. HVAC controls now sit below the touchscreen, with physical shortcuts retained.

10. Better Infotainment

The new Toyota Audio Multimedia system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual Bluetooth device pairing. Toyota says that the voice assistant responds quicker, and the native navigation now feeds directions to the digital cluster.

11. Toyota Safety Sense 4.0

The 2026 RAV4 Hybrid is the first Toyota to feature TSS 4.0. Improvements include better object detection and more refined assist functions. Hardware upgrades and software tweaks come via Toyota’s new Arene platform.

12. Arene Software

The Arene platform, developed by Woven by Toyota, debuts on the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid. It allows over-the-air updates and paves the way for more connected features in future updates.

13. Interior Upgrades By Variant

The Woodland gets red-orange cabin accents and branded all-weather mats. The regular XSE trims offer suede-effect seats with colored stitching and optional two-tone dashboards.

14. Fresh Colors & Finishes

New exterior shades like Urban Rock (Woodland only), Meteor Shower, and Everest join the palette. Two-tone options return, including Meteor Shower with Black roof for the XSE.
