2026 Toyota C-HR Electric looks spicy in the ‘Tandoori’ dual-tone color

The Toyota C-HR Electric (C-HR BEV), arriving in the U.S. in early 2026, will also be available next year in Canada. Recently, we got a chance to spend some time with the compact SUV in the new ‘Tandoori’ body color with a black roof, and here’s what we observed:

Design

At the front, the C-HR BEV features the familiar “hammerhead” format, with headlamps sitting higher up and a smooth front bumper bringing it in line with the bZ family. Moving to the sides, the 2026 Toyota C-HR Electric adopts a similar coupe-like SUV profile with a longer body and wheelbase compared to the European hybrid model.

At the back, the C-HR Electric retains the coupe-like sloping roofline but extends the rear overhang slightly to balance the longer wheelbase. Wheel sizes include 18 inches on SE and 20 inches on XSE with two-tone roof combinations also available on XSE.

Interior

The cabin incorporates a fully-digital gauge cluster and features soft-touch materials, customizable ambient lighting, and a 14-inch touchscreen running the Toyota Audio Multimedia system.

The center console includes two wireless chargers with rear passengers getting USB Type-C ports and available air conditioning controls. Fabric and SofTex seating is standard on SE, while XSE adds SofTex with synthetic suede.

The compact crossover layout with 60/40 split folding rear seats offers up to 25.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. Available equipment includes a panoramic roof and a JBL Premium Audio system with nine speakers.

Specifications

The 2026 C-HR BEV is a bigger vehicle in every direction compared to the older gas-powered C-HR that was on sale in the U.S. until 2022. It measures 177.9 inches long, 73.6 inches wide, and 63.8 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 108.3 inches.

The C-HR BEV uses a lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 74.7 kWh and a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 290 miles. The C-HR BEV features front and rear electric motors that form the AWD system for a combined system output of 338 hp. Toyota estimates a 0-60 mph time of around 5 seconds.

The model uses the NACS charging port for access to Tesla’s supercharger network. It can work at DC fast chargers with a stated 10-80 percent charging time of around 30 minutes. An 11-kW onboard AC charger is standard with Level 1 and 2 AC charging supported.

Price & Release Date

The Toyota C-HR PHEV and HEV have been popular models for Toyota across the globe, and the C-HR BEV (marketed as the C-HR+ in Europe) is a standalone variant based on the e-TNGA platform.

Toyota has not yet released pricing for the C-HR BEV, though we expect the starting price to duck under USD 35,000, positioning it below the 2026 Toyota bZ. The model is expected to arrive at U.S. Toyota dealers in early 2026.
