2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid “in the build phase” as per U.S. dealers

The first units of the gas-engined 2025 Toyota 4Runner began reaching buyers in the U.S. in late January. Variants including the TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, and Off-Road Premium, reached excited customers, as the body-on-frame SUV gains traction.

The big news is that the 2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid (i-Force Max) is days away from reaching buyers. Many Toyota dealerships across the U.S. have listed the first electrified 4Runner on their websites as being “in the build phase.” We’ve seen this status across dealer websites in states like Colorado, Arizona, California, and Nevada.

Since last year, Toyota has also displayed the 4Runner Hybrid at U.S. auto shows, giving prospective buyers an early look. Here’s an overview of the hybrid SUV.

Design & Interior

Visually, the 4Runner Hybrid retains a rugged, old-school SUV look, closely resembling the Tacoma Hybrid. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter grades add off-road enhancements like ARB’s OME forged shocks, a high-clearance stance, reinforced underbody protection, and practical additions such as an ARB roof rack and RIGID Industries LED fog lamps. Distinctive bronze-finished wheels and heritage-inspired “Toyota” grille, integrating an LED light bar, differentiate the Trailhunter trim.

Inside, the modern-yet-functional cabin features physical buttons and dials, an available 14-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, and a JBL audio system with a detachable FLEX speaker. Heated and ventilated seats, a digital key, and multiple USB-C ports improve convenience. The Trailhunter trim offers bespoke Mineral-colored heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats for extra comfort.

Specifications

Adaptive Variable Suspension on Limited and Platinum grades promises to further improves ride comfort.

Powering the 4Runner Hybrid is a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine combined with the i-Force Max hybrid system. This setup generates up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, ensuring strong acceleration and towing capabilities up to 6,000 pounds.

Fuel efficiency reaches up to an EPA-estimated 24 MPG on the highway. Standard full-time four-wheel drive with an electronic locking center differential and available features such as Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism, and an electronic locking rear differential bolster its off-road abilities.
