5 New Features you probably didn’t hear about in the new Tesla Model Y

The new Tesla Model Y is now reaching buyers in the U.S. who made early reservations. Deliveries at Tesla stores began in early March, while some customers were invited to Fremont and Giga Texas over the weekend to receive their cars.

While features and changes like the light band, bigger screen, rear touchscreen, and power folding rear seats have been widely reported, here are the 5 features in the Model Y ‘Juniper’ that you probably didn’t hear about:

1. Bumper Camera

The 2025 Model Y now includes a front bumper camera. This feature first appeared on the Tesla Cybertruck. The bumper camera provides a wider view, helping with Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Advanced Smart Summon. A washer system keeps the lens clean, ensuring clear vision in tough conditions.

2. Adaptive Headlamps

Adaptive headlights are finally available on U.S. Teslas. Common in Europe, these headlights selectively dim parts of the high beam to avoid dazzling other drivers and adjust automatically around curves.

3. Dual Braking System

Tesla updated the braking system significantly. The new setup blends regenerative braking with traditional hydraulic brakes. The system features two independent circuits: one controlled electronically by the car, and one directly by the driver. This combination delivers smoother and consistent braking. When pressing the brake pedal, the Model Y decides between regen or mechanical brakes based on pedal pressure.

Additionally, drivers can now choose between Reduced and Standard regenerative braking modes from the menu. Reduced mode softens deceleration, suitable for those uncomfortable with one-pedal driving.

4. Frunk Drain Plug

Tesla has added a drain plug at the front edge of the frunk. This simple addition helps with cleaning and draining water or melted ice easily. A minute but practical feature.

5. AC Swing Mode

Climate control now includes “Swing” mode. When activated, the air vents move automatically from left to right. It helps circulate air evenly through the cabin, improving passenger comfort in summer.
