2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Limited Hybrid looks strong in Sand Dune Pearl

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid gets Subaru’s new series-parallel hybrid system from the Forester, with standard AWD capability. The new addition broadens the Crosstrek range for U.S. buyers seeking to reduce fuel bills without changes to capability or ground clearance.

We recently got a chance to check out a prototype version in person, and here are our impressions of what was representative of a Limited Hybrid model.

Styling

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid arrives with an exterior refresh across the gas and hybrid models. The design remains clean, distinguished only by subtle aerodynamic enhancements and specific hybrid badging on the rear liftgate and front doors.

At the front, it shares the refreshed front grille and updated LED headlights with the gas models while the Hybrid features exclusive 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels. It also offers two unique exterior colors: Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl. This particular example comes equipped with a Thule roof box accessory.

Interior

All 2026 Crosstrek models include dual-zone automatic climate control, 60/40-split rear seats, power windows with auto up/down for the front row, and keyless entry. Hybrid trims increase standard equipment. The Sport Hybrid includes a 12.3-inch full digital cluster and an 11.6-inch touchscreen with navigation.

The Limited Hybrid adds gray StarTex upholstery with orange stitching and a Harman Kardon 10-speaker system. The full digital instrument cluster on hybrid trims displays system flow and power distribution.

A heated steering wheel becomes standard on the Limited Hybrid. The Sport Hybrid and Limited Hybrid include a 10-way power driver seat with 2-way lumbar support, which feels comfortable even for a six-footer, and offers good outward visibility.

Storage features include crossbar mounting points and a center console with USB-A and USB-C ports. At 18.6 cu.ft., the cargo hold is 6.5% smaller than the gas version due to the placement of the battery under the floor.

Specifications

The Crosstrek Hybrid uses an Atkinson/Miller-cycle 2.5-liter ‘Boxer’ engine paired with electric motors for a combined 194 hp. Ground clearance remains at 8.7 inches across hybrid trims. Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive remains standard on all trims, and X-MODE paired with Hill Descent Control is included on the Hybrid, with a towing capability of up to 1,500 pounds.

As for fuel efficiency, it manages 36/36 mpg (city/highway in EPA measurement), compared to 33/26 mpg of the gas model. It’s not as good as what Honda and Toyota hybrids offer around this price point, but the mechanical AWD system and the signature Subaru driveline characteristics stand out in the Crosstrek’s compact package.

Price & Release Date

The Crosstrek Hybrid offers +10 mpg in the city over the gas model, which makes the USD 2,000 jump worth it.

The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid starts at USD 33,995 for the Sport Hybrid trim and USD 34,995 for the Limited Hybrid trim with an additional USD 1,420 delivery and destination fee. Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl paint options add USD 395 on top.
