The MINI 1965 Victory Edition, introduced in Cooper S, John Cooper Works, and John Cooper Works Electric configurations, pays homage to the brand’s historic win in the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. The special-edition model is available in the U.S., but only in the gas-powered John Cooper Works configuration.
Recently, we had a chance to get up close with the MINI John Cooper Works Electric 1965 Victory Edition and examine all its customizations in detail. Here are some interesting observations we made in the global-spec car:
Design
The MINI John Cooper Works Electric 1965 Victory Edition builds on the sportier styling of the John Cooper Works Electric with several changes throughout.
The special-edition model is only available in Chili Red paint, carried over from the regular John Cooper Works Electric. The mirror caps and roof are painted in Glazed White to provide contrast.
MINI distinguishes the 1965 Victory Edition with a white trim stripe, which starts ahead of the leading edge of the hood and extends all the way back to the tailgate. The extension of the white trim stripe at the rear features a “1965 Victory Edition” inscription.
The number 52 worn by the MINI Cooper S that won the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally appears as white decals along the sides. Instead of the JCW badges on the vertical endplates of the roof spoiler, the 1965 Victory Edition features red-backed “1965” badges.
Interior
Inside, too, the MINI John Cooper Works Electric 1965 Victory Edition has several exclusive features to commemorate the Cooper’s success on the rally stage.
An oval sticker on the driver’s-side door jamb lists details of the rally-winning MINI Cooper S, including the 34th edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, race number 52, the names of its crew members, Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter, and its AJB 44B registration number.
Door sills carrying a white “1965 Victory Edition” inscription on a red and black background further make ingress feel unique. The steering wheel and center console feature “1965” lettering on a black background.
Specifications
Technically, the MINI John Cooper Works Electric 1965 Victory Edition is the same as the regular John Cooper Works Electric. It has a front-mounted motor producing 255 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, along with a 49.2 kWh battery pack that can be charged at up to 11 kW (AC)/95 kW (DC).
A 0-62 mph sprint takes 5.9 seconds, while the top speed is 124 mph. The battery can be charged from 0 to 100% SoC via an AC charger in 5 hours and 15 minutes. A 10-80% DC charging session takes 30 minutes. According to WLTP, the car should be able to travel up to 231 miles on a single charge.
Price & Release Date
MINI is yet to officially announce pricing for the John Cooper Works Electric 1965 Victory Edition. Availability will be limited, and the company plans to commence European deliveries around Q4 2026.
