We got up close with the UK-spec MINI Cooper Oxford Edition at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where MINI showcased a new special edition celebrating 25 years since the first modern MINI rolled off the production line at Plant Oxford in the United Kingdom in 2001.
The Oxford Edition is a newly introduced special edition and is unrelated to the long-running Oxford Edition sold in the U.S. market, despite sharing the same name.
The limited-run model is based on the latest three-door MINI Cooper and will be offered as both the Cooper C and Cooper S. In person, it feels properly British, and frankly, there is no mistaking it for anything else, even if it were partly camouflaged or hidden.
It is obvious why the Cooper Oxford Edition is not offered as an EV. The electric model is manufactured in China through MINI’s joint venture with Great Wall Motor.
Although there were plans to produce the all-electric Cooper in Oxford, MINI appears to have postponed them, and so have MINI’s plans to bring the new electric model to America.
The Oxford Edition pays tribute to the brand’s British roots with a series of Union Jack-inspired design elements. Walking up to the car, the most noticeable feature is the white contrast roof, which incorporates a contemporary interpretation of the UK flag, while a red and white center stripe continues over the hood and tailgate.
Buyers can choose from Chili Red, Indigo Sunset Blue, and Blazing Blue exterior finishes, paired with white mirror caps and 18-inch Slide Spoke two-tone alloy wheels with edition-specific hub and valve cap details.
Inside, the British theme continues with a textured Union Jack graphic at the six o’clock position on the steering wheel, a Union Jack motif on the driver’s floor mat, and a checkered flag design on the passenger-side mat. Unique door sills complete the edition-specific interior, all of which we observed during our time with the vehicle.
The Oxford Edition is available exclusively with the gasoline-powered MINI Cooper C and Cooper S. MINI has not announced any mechanical changes compared to the standard models, with the updates focused on styling and exclusive trim.
Alongside the car, MINI has also introduced an Oxford Capsule lifestyle collection, which includes bags, T-shirts, a cap, stickers, and an umbrella featuring matching Oxford Edition design cues.
Pricing and availability for individual markets are expected to be announced closer to launch, but we do not see an EV variant arriving until the Oxford plant begins producing the electric model.
