Update: ‘Design,’ ‘Interior,’ and ‘Specifications’ sections revised with new info.
The mid-size electric SUV segment, dominated by the Tesla Model Y worldwide, has proven challenging for established luxury brands. This September, Stuttgart will try to change that narrative with the first-ever Mercedes GLC Electric. Here’s everything we know about the U.S.-bound upcoming electric crossover:
Design
Mercedes-Benz must have observed from the launch of the four bespoke EQ-series electric models that not all clients prefer the curvy, cab-forward design. The familiar, classy look that has been its legacy for decades, is still desired. With that feedback in mind, the company has gone back to the drawing board and reworked the design philosophy for its future EVs, including the all-electric GLC.

Conventional Proportions
As we’ve shown in our exclusive renderings here, the Mercedes GLC EV should feature a familiar exterior with regular crossover proportions and normal design elements. The three-pointed star is likely to stick to conventional headlights despite the trend of split headlights in the industry, ensuring an elegant look. The new headlights will be more angular than those of the GLC and the EQC and feature a three-pointed star signature.
Needless to say, the Mercedes GLC Electric will skip a typical upper grille in favor of a similarly designed covered mask for enhanced aerodynamics, with illumination. A small lower grille should serve the cooling needs of its drive components.

On the sides, we expect at least certain 21-inch wheel options to focus more on style than aerodynamics. Recessed door handles would extend automatically on touching them and retract when not in use, reducing air drag and giving the door panels a clean look. At the back, the three-pointed star signature would reappear in the combination lamps.
Interior
The Mercedes GLC EV would feature a well-equipped interior with exquisite materials, including vegan options, and top-notch craftsmanship. Old-school drivers are likely to be a little disappointed here, though, as the cabin is likely to be highly digitalized and eschew most traditional physical controls, relinquishing them to a touchscreen and capacitive buttons.

Like in the Mercedes CLA Electric, the dashboard is expected to be upright and feature a large glass surface with three displays integrated behind it, including a passenger touchscreen. The UI of the displays would also be similar. The passenger touchscreen will likely support streaming videos via Disney+ and Ridevu and cloud gaming via Boosteroid.
The gear selector would be on a column mounted to the steering wheel, leading to more free storage space in the center console. A dual wireless charging pad should allow the driver and front passenger to charge their smartphones simultaneously, providing more convenience. A flat-bottomed steering wheel would be available for a sporty feel in select grades like the AMG Line.
The seats offer more space all around, and comfort gets a further improvement with the S-Class-derived AIRMATIC air suspension. An adjustable damping system fine-tunes ride comfort and agility.
Specifications
MB.EA Platform
At a time when companies are reconsidering dedicated EV platforms, Mercedes-Benz is in a secure position to go ahead. The company is developing the GLC EV on the MB.EA platform, engineered exclusively for EVs. As a result, the upcoming electric SUV benefits from an impressive 117-inch wheelbase.
Boot & Frunk
The cargo compartment holds 570 litres (20.1 cu. ft.), expanding to 1,740 litres (61.4 cu. ft.) with seats folded. The frunk adds 128 litres (4.5 cu. ft.), accessible via touch control. The electric GLC is 8 cm (3.1 in.) longer in wheelbase than the combustion version, boosting legroom and headroom in both rows.
Towing & Maneuverability
It features a rear-wheel steering system that can virtually shorten the wheelbase and reduce its turning circle to under 37 ft., making the vehicle easily maneuverable in the city. The rear wheels can turn, either outside or inside, depending on the driving speed, up to 4.5º. The GLC 400 4MATIC can tow up to 2.4 tons (4,800 lbs) braked. Tongue weight is rated at 100 kg (220 lbs), allowing e-bike carriers. Trailer stabilisation and a trailer assist system are offered to improve control.

Battery & Charging
Thanks to an 800-volt architecture, the Mercedes GLC EV supports ultra-fast charging, at rates of up to more than 320 kW. It will be launched with a 94.5 kWh battery pack, which should deliver an EPA-estimated range of up to around 350 miles. A 10-minute fast charge can add around 260 km (162 miles) of range. A DC converter is fitted for 400-volt station compatibility in specific markets.
Range & Outputs
Customers will be able to choose between single-motor RWD and dual-motor RWD variants, with the latter packing up to 483 horsepower, as per a report from Road & Track. According to a report from Autocar, a high-performance AMG variant with axial-flux motors producing up to 600 horsepower will follow in 2027.
Price & Release Date
As we’re readying this vehicle (new CLA) we’re winter testing the next one kind of around the corner, which is the all-electric GLC that we will present at the auto show in Munich in the fall.
Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, at the Q1 2025 earnings call on Apr 30, 2025

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it will manufacture the combustion-powered GLC in the U.S. from late 2027, but it has yet to reveal plans to build the GLC EV locally. Initially, it could import the electric model from its plant in Germany. The world premiere is set to take place at IAA 2025 in Munich on September 8, 2025, and we expect the U.S. launch by early 2026. Prices could start at close to USD 65,000.
