8 Features You Should Know About in the Mercedes GLC Electric

While it’s the successor to the EQC, the Mercedes GLC Electric marks Stuttgart’s first serious attempt to crack the mid-size premium EV segment. Set to debut at the IAA 2025 in Munich on September 8, the Tesla Model Y rival is built from the ground up as an EV.

Having already experienced the GLC Plug-in Hybrid and the EQE SUV, these are eight main features in the upcoming electric crossover, in our view. The midsize EV will be introduced in the ‘GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ technology’ variant this September.

1. More Conventional Proportions

Mercedes is moving away from the EQ-series egg-like styling for the GLC Electric. Studying photos of recent test prototypes, it takes on more classic SUV proportions, ditching the split-headlamp fad for a unified front-end featuring an illuminated grille panel and three-pointed star-themed DRLs.

2. Highly Digital Interior

Inside, it is expected to follow the template of the CLA Electric. A full-width glass panel should have three screens, including a passenger touchscreen that supports Disney+, Ridevu, and cloud gaming via Boosteroid.

3. Premium Materials & Features

Mercedes should group sustainability and luxury together in the interior, offering vegan materials and premium detailing. AIRMATIC suspension, optional flat-bottomed steering, and dual wireless phone chargers should keep the passengers comfortable.

4. Rides on the MB.EA Platform

Unlike some brands scaling back bespoke EV platforms, Mercedes is not looking for shortcuts. The GLC EV rides on the MB.EA skateboard chassis with a 117-inch wheelbase. That’s 3.14 inches longer than the combustion GLC, allowing more room for passengers and cargo.

5. High Practicality

Boot space (European measurement) stands at 570 litres (20.1 cu. ft.), expandable to 1,740 litres (61.4 cu. ft.) with the rear seats folded. The frunk adds 128 litres (4.5 cu. ft.) more, accessible via touch. The long wheelbase should translate to improved legroom and headroom in both rows.

6. Agile & Usable Towing

Rear-wheel steering of up to 4.5 degrees helps reduce the turning circle to under 37 feet, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces. The GLC Electric can tow up to 4,800 pounds (braked), and Mercedes includes trailer assist and stabilization features for added control. The tongue weight is rated at 220 pounds, making it suitable for carrying electric bikes.

7. Fast Charging & Long Range

An 800-volt architecture supports rapid charging beyond 320 kW. A 94.5 kWh battery is expected to deliver up to 350 miles (EPA-est.), while a 10-minute top-up adds around 162 miles. It also includes a DC converter for 400V station compatibility.

8. Strong Performance with AMG Expected Later

Base trims will come in RWD and AWD, with outputs up to 483 hp. A high-performance AMG version, due in 2027, will feature axial-flux motors and around 600 hp, according to Autocar UK and Road & Track.

Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch the GLC Electric in the U.S. in the first half of 2026, likely priced from around USD 60,000. Initial units will be imported from Germany.
