Mazda has confirmed the premiere of the all-new CX-5 for July 10, 2025. The third-generation model, which has been confirmed to receive a Skyactiv-Z hybrid variant in 2027, gets sharper styling, a more spacious interior, “class leading safety,” and updated infotainment system. It will reach the U.S. as the 2026 Mazda CX-5, as confirmed by Mazda North American Operations.
While the launch version is confirmed to retain the Skyactiv-G engine, the company says it will offer a more intuitive drive, offering comfort with control.

Teasers confirm that the 2026 CX-5 features a noticeable redesign. While it sticks with the ‘Kodo – Soul of Motion’ philosophy, we can identify refinements such as slimmer vertical headlamps, a squarer grille, and a slightly longer bonnet. Chunkier rocker panels, streamlined handles, and slightly squared wheel arches give it a more planted look.
At the rear, the shape takes after the CX-90, and L-shaped taillamps cut deeper into the bodywork. The ‘Mazda’ lettering replaces the logo on the tailgate, and the fascia exudes contrast with body-colored tailgate, gloss black upper bumper, and exposed chrome exhaust finisher.
The body appears longer than the outgoing model for increased cargo space, an area where the current CX-5 lags behind rivals. With a thicker D-pillar and a more pronounced rear, Mazda seems to be addressing the practicality concerns.

Inside, going by Mazda’s announcement, expect a decluttered layout and more usable space. Mazda is positioning the new CX-5 to suit a wider range of lifestyles, which likely means a shift towards improved everyday usability rather than flashy features and large screens.
Mazda is also cutting complexity and the 2026 CX-5 is expected in fewer configurations. This change helps Mazda streamline production and reduce costs, especially important as it adds electrified variants. Expect fewer trims, simplified options, and a cleaner purchase experience.
Mazda will introduce a hybrid CX-5 in 2027. Unlike the Toyota-powered CX-50 Hybrid, this variant gets Mazda’s in-house hybrid system. It will pair the new 2.5L Skyactiv-Z gasoline engine with an electric motor and generator.

The future Mazda CX-5 Hybrid will likely offer around 200 hp and close to 40 mpg (EPA-est.) combined. A lithium-ion battery will support short EV-mode driving. Front-wheel drive should be standard, with e-AWD optional. The target appears to be better city performance and lower emissions, and more details are expected next year.

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 will co-exist with the CX-50 in the U.S., targeting different buyers. The CX-5 remains Mazda’s global bestseller, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon! The world debut is planned at 10:00 am CEST (4:00 am EDT) on July 10. More details will follow on TopElectricSUV as Mazda lifts the covers on the compact SUV.
