Kia will begin sales of the EV5 in Canada in early 2026, after launching it in Korea and Europe this year. Positioned as an affordable all-electric SUV for young families, the EV5 will be seen as a ‘practical’ alternative to the sleek EV6 in North America and Europe.
We already experienced the Asian-spec model in Thailand last year, and now, at the Auto Zurich show, we’re looking at the European-spec model again to assess if it should make its way to the U.S. as well.
Design

The Kia EV5 follows the brand’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. Unlike the EV6, it gets robust SUV proportions with clean, geometric surfaces. The upright stance and squared wheel arches reinforce its traditional SUV identity, while the signature Star Map daytime running lights in this style is a telltale of the electric powertrain underneath.
The tall roofline, boxy body, and strong shoulder line emphasize utility over form. The wide tailgate and vertical rear lamps complement the boxy shape, while the high beltline and short overhangs give it a confident look. Seeing it in person, the design spirit is the same as the EV9, and family buyers who value space and practicality, but don’t have a big budget, will find it enticing.
Interior & Features

Inside, the EV5 inherits the lounge-like feel of Kia’s larger EV9, but in a smaller footprint. The cabin uses soft-touch materials and a flat floor layout to maximize space. The big highlight is the Panoramic Wide Display, a dual 12.3-inch setup with an integrated 5-inch climate screen.
Kia’s ccNC infotainment platform with a unified graphical interface makes accessing EV data, maps, and connectivity features easy.

A three-zone climate control system, wide center console with a sliding tray, and fold-flat second-row seats that merge with the cargo floor make the EV5 practical for daily use. The near-flat folding seats also allow it to double as a mini camper for short overnight stays.
Kia has also included features like Pet Mode, which maintains a steady cabin temperature for pets when the driver steps away. Over-the-air updates and downloadable functions from the Kia Connect Store ensure that owners can upgrade and personalize the vehicle even after purchase.
Specifications

Built on a low-spec version of the E-GMP architecture, the EV5 uses an 81.4 kWh battery paired with a 160 kW front motor. In the long-range 2WD configuration, it delivers up to 530 km (329 mi) WLTP range on 18-inch wheels.
Fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 30 minutes using a 150 kW DC charger. The EV5 supports AC charging at up to 11 kW and includes i-Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking for adjustable one-pedal driving.
It measures 181.5 in (4,610 mm) long, 73.8 in (1,875 mm) wide, and 65.9 in (1,675 mm) tall, with a 108.3 in (2,750 mm) wheelbase. Ground clearance is 6.9 in (176 mm). Cargo capacity stands at 566 L (20.0 cu ft) behind the second row and up to 1,650 L (58.2 cu ft) with seats folded.
Price & Release Date

Kia will roll out the EV5 across Europe in the coming weeks, followed by Canada in early 2026. We expect Canadian pricing to hover around CAD 50,000.
TopElectricSUV says

EV6 sales in the U.S. are sliding, with just 11,077 units registered through September, a 31% drop from last year. Honestly, the EV5 feels like a better fit for this market, with Sportage-like vibes. It looks like what Americans expect an electric SUV to look like, squared-off, upright, and practical, without having to pay top dollar for it.
Back in August, spy shots showed a prototype of the EV5 towing a trailer on U.S. soil. This doesn’t necessarily confirm local plans, as automakers regularly run test mules in U.S. conditions for global testing and validation.
That said, the EV3 and EV5, sitting in that sweet USD 35,000-45,000 range, could be the ticket for Kia to test the boundaries of its EV lineup and find where the real volume lies in the U.S.
