Jeep Wrangler 4xe sold out for 2021 in the U.S. market

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe debuted in September 2020 as the most eco-friendly Wrangler ever. Just as Jeep announced at the unveiling, customer deliveries of the PHEV in the U.S. market commenced in early 2021. Right now, the demand is so high that customers placing new orders will have to wait until 2022 for deliveries.

At the Stellantis EV Day 2021, Christian Meunier, CEO, Jeep, said that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling PHEV in America and revealed that the company has sold out the whole production planned for this year. The company produces the Wrangler PHEV at the Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio, USA, since December 2020.

The Jeep Wrangler that was only launched 3 months ago is the best-selling PHEV in America, ahead of Toyota, within 3 months of the launch, and it’s sold out for the rest of the year.

Jeep has not given the exact number of Wrangler 4xe units sold in the country this year, but overall Wrangler sales topped 118,666 units, a YoY improvement of 23 percent.

Our all-new Jeep Wrangler 4xe technology is the no.1 selling PHEV in the U.S. retail market, which is paying tribute to the attractiveness of our products. Here, this case is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe with electrified technology in this iconic brand, which means freedom.

On the powertrain

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s powertrain teams up a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors, a 17.3 kWh (gross) battery pack, and the TorqueFlight 8-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline engine produces 270 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.

One of the two electric motors is an engine-mounted generator unit, and the other is a transmission-mounted generator unit integrated into the transmission. The engine-mounted motor-generator delivers 44 hp and 39 lb.-ft. of torque, while the transmission-mounted motor-generator develops 134 hp and 181 lb.-ft. of torque.

The engine-mounted motor-generator is a replacement for the conventional alternator. It spins the engine for start-stop operation and generates electricity for the battery pack. The transmission-mounted motor-generator replaces the conventional torque converter of an automatic transmission. In total, the plug-in hybrid electric powertrain offers 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 17.3 kWh battery pack is a Lithium-ion NMC unit that operates at up to 400 volts. It provides a pure electric driving range of 21 miles*. The combined fuel economy and total driving range are 49 MPGe* and 370 miles*, respectively. Prices of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe in the USA start at USD 49,805.
