Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Facelift (MY2026): 5 Changes that we’d welcome

Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf confirmed to TopSpeed that Jeep’s USD 3.2 billion investment for 2025 includes the Grand Cherokee refresh, set for its release later this year. Production will continue at the Mack and Jefferson plants in the U.S. Pricing details are expected closer to launch, but local production will minimize the impact of import tariffs.

Here are five updates we’d love to see in the refreshed 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, having spent a fair bit of time in the current model.

1. Sharper Styling

The styling changes, as shown in our rendering, will keep the fifth-gen Grand Cherokee fresh until 2028, which is when an all-new model is expected.

Spy images from test prototypes indicate Jeep isn’t planning drastic changes. Still, refinements to the grille, bumper, and foglamps would add some freshness. As we suggest in our exclusive renderings, a redesigned radiator grille with horizontal slats and updated air intakes are set to enhance the SUV’s presence without altering its popular shape.

2. Upgraded Infotainment System

Test mules reveal an infotainment screen wider than the current setup, closely resembling the Grand Wagoneer’s system. We expect the new 12.3-inch screen to provide quicker responses, clearer graphics, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

This updated infotainment will modernize the dashboard, but disappointingly we don’t see a physical HVAC control tray in test prototypes, requiring drivers to adjust the temperature and fan speed via the touchscreen menu.

3. Higher-Quality Interior Materials

While we find the current Grand Cherokee’s interior appealing, there’s room for improvement. On our wishlist are upgraded materials, softer-touch surfaces around the dash, new color combinations, and enhanced trim finishes on the doors and center console. Upgrades for consistency across the Grand Cherokee variant walk would strengthen its competitiveness in the mid-size segment.

4. Engine & Transmission Upgrades

The UAW-Stellantis Hourly Highlighter from November 2023 indicated that some Jeep models will migrate to the 2.0 GME-T4 ‘EVO’ engine, produced at the Dundee Engine Plant, expected to be an evolved version of the current mill that powers the Grand Cherokee 4xe. However, MoparInsiders suggests the engine remains unchanged for the Grand Cherokee 4xe facelift.

Currently, the Grand Cherokee 4xe utilizes a 2.0-liter engine paired with twin electric motors, delivering 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The engine is reportedly unchanged in the facelift.

Similarly, MoparInsiders had learned that the 2026 Wrangler and Gladiator 4xe models will upgrade to the ZF 8HP80PH plug-in hybrid transmission. It delivers 215 hp and 332 lb-ft torque from its electric motor alone, substantially improving acceleration, fuel efficiency, electric driving range and smoothness. The newer components, when they cascade into the Grand Cherokee in future model years, promise to improve driving performance and its spec sheet appeal.

5. Enhanced ADAS Capability

Spy images suggest repositioned Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) sensors. While this doesn’t necessarily imply enhanced autonomous driving assist capabilities, building on the current Hands-Free Active Driving Assist is required to attract safety-conscious buyers.

We’re expecting prices of the refreshed Grand Cherokee 4xe to range from around USD 62,000 to USD 78,000 for high-end Summit trims.

Jeep is working on implementing STLA AutoDrive, its Level 3-capable autonomous driving system, in its model range. Comparable to the Mercedes Drive Pilot, this “hands off, eyes off” system operates the vehicle at speeds of up to 37 mph in certain conditions, during which drivers can use their time to engage in non-driving activities. Jeep hasn’t confirmed when it will launch the system, but the Grand Cherokee, as its top-seller, is the leading candidate for the rollout.
