The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is one of the top choices in America for those seeking a rugged, plug-in hybrid mid-size SUV that caters to an adventurous lifestyle. Recently, I had the opportunity to check it out in its most off-road-oriented trim – Trailhawk. Jeep offers only the Grand Cherokee 4xe in the Trailhawk trim, and here are some interesting observations that I made:
Design
The Bright White Clear-Coat/Black Clear-Coat option features a Bright White body with a Black roof and contrasting elements on the pillars, along the wheelbase, and bumpers. I could sense that the two-tone design provides a striking visual contrast, giving the Jeep Grand Cherokee a distinctive and upscale look that would attract Americans seeking a unique exterior combination, without going overboard.

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe features the same modern-tough exterior as the gas model. It has a few distinctive styling touches to highlight its electrified powertrain, such as a charge port door with a blue “e” badge on the front quarter panel and a “4xe” badge on the liftgate.
The Trailhawk’s exclusive anti-glare hood decal and distinctive 18-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheels finished in black color make it instantly recognizable. The special wheels come wrapped in 265/60R18 Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires sourced from Goodyear. Even if someone cannot figure out that it’s the Trailhawk trim, the blue tow hooks serve as a dead giveaway.
Interior

Inside, Jeep uses exclusive Capri leatherette seats with suede inserts in the 2024 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe. 8-way power-adjustable front seats with 4-way power lumbar support and memory setting for the driver’s seat are standard. A heating function for the front seats and the rear seat is also part of the standard equipment.
On the tech front, the Trailhawk trim packs a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch passenger touchscreen, and Alpine audio system with nine speakers, subwoofer, and 506-watt amplifier. The infotainment system includes navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto integration, and Amazon Alexa compatibility.

Specifications
The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engine with two electric motors for 375 hp of combined power and 470 lb.-ft. of total torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel drive system with a rear electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) work together to send drive to the wheels.
In demanding off-road situations, the anti-roll bar can be disconnected to increase the suspension travel. Another noteworthy chassis system of the Trailhawk trim in my opinion is an air suspension with electronic semi-active damping. Thanks to this suspension, the 2024 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe has a ground clearance of up to 10.9 inches and a water fording depth of up to 24 inches.
A 17.3 kWh lithium-ion NMC battery pack gives the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe an EPA-estimated pure electric range of 26 miles. It supports charging at up to 7.2 kW. The EPA-estimated combined energy fuel economy of the plug-in hybrid SUV is 56 MPGe.

Behind the wheel of the 2024 Grand Cherokee 4xe, I explored its three drive modes: Hybrid, Electric, and eSave. The first two are self-explanatory, while in the eSave mode, the vehicle moves using only gas, saving the electricity in the battery pack for later. This mode also offers the option of choosing between Battery Save and Battery Charge. Irrespective of the mode, the vehicle operates as a hybrid when the battery pack nears depletion. Here, I could select the level of regenerative braking.
