The GMC Hummer EV Pickup, which starts at $84,650, is quite pricey even for an electric truck. Besides being big, heavy, and inefficient, it’s impractical for most pickup customers, though it’s highly desirable. It is likely that these aspirational Hummer fans will be able to obtain a mini GMC Hummer EV Pickup in the future that does better in these aspects, and doesn’t break the bank.
Project details
Bloomberg reported on October 20, 2022, that General Motors is considering expanding the Hummer lineup with an electric midsize pickup. A design concept for the model already exists at the company’s North Hollywood Design Center, which indicates the project is well beyond mere speculation. People aware of the development see it as having a good chance of arriving on the market and claim it to be a priority project.
Bloomberg’s sources said that leveraging Hummer’s popularity with a smaller model would be a logical extension of the full-size Hummer EV Pickup currently on sale. Plus, should GM decide to take Hummer to Europe when it re-enters the region, the mini GMC Hummer EV Pickup would be more suitable than the Pickup and SUV full-size models. The same vehicle would be even more appealing to Europeans if it were available in an SUV version.
Design & features
Using details from the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, we have created a rendering depicting the mini GMC Hummer EV Pickup. A similar muscular exterior is expected, including full-width front lights that serve as charging indicators, polished skid plates, funky but sophisticated wheels, exposed tow hooks, and roof-mounted clearing lights.
In January 2023, General Motors offered select media outlets a peek at the Mini GMC Hummer EV Pickup at its design studio. One of the invitees was Ars Technica, which reported that the secret model seems to be as compact as the Ford Maverick, features a grille similar to that of the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV, and has off-road tires that make it look taller than usual.
The vehicle is equipped with not one, but four forward-facing cameras, as well as a screen that displays real-time rendering. Apparently, the smaller Hummer electric truck model isn’t being conceived as a Maverick rival but something which is extremely capable and high-tech.
Specifications
Due to its smaller size and lighter weight, the mini GMC Hummer EV pickup might not require the Hummer EV Pickup’s 212.7 kWh battery pack. Likewise, the mid-size Hummer EV Pickup might not have a tri-motor powertrain to ensure affordability and a long range. Under Watts to Freedom mode, even a twin-motor setup should be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under five seconds. A 350-mile range is expected from at least one configuration.
The dual motor setup of the Blazer EV SS (the top model of the upcoming electric SUV) offers 557 horsepower and up to 648 lb.-ft. of torque. As far as range is concerned, the base model of the Blazer EV offers 247 miles of range while the Blazer EV SS model has a range of 320 miles. We expect the mid-sized Hummer EV pickup to have range and power figures in this region. Do note that all the figures are GM-estimates.
Price & Release Date
The mini GMC Hummer EV pickup could go on sale in the U.S. in 2025 for around USD 55,000. It could compete with the rumored Rivian R2T that’s expected in 2026 and the Scout electric pickup that’s due in 2026.
