Genesis GV90 production to begin in June 2026, says Korean report

Genesis will begin production of its flagship electric SUV, the GV90, in June 2026, according to a report from Korea Economic Daily, published on April 20. To be assembled at Hyundai Motor Group’s (HMG) new dedicated EV factory in Ulsan, South Korea, the GV90 will rival current and future luxury SUVs like the Mercedes EQS SUV, BMW iX7, and Range Rover EV.

As per multiple South Korean reports, initially set for a late 2025 production start, Genesis programmed the GV90 to March 2026 (via ETNews) due to slower EV adoption, and has now decided on June 2026 production. Yearly output of the flagship is expected to reach around 21,000 units, earlier reports said.

Design

Design inspiration for the GV90 comes directly from Genesis’s Neolun Concept, revealed in March 2024. The Neolun previews a classy and sophisticated SUV featuring distinctive coach doors without traditional B-pillars, though such doors will likely be reserved for a high-spec variant in the production car.

Test prototypes show that regular versions will maintain conventional doors but feature design cues such as the brand’s hallmark “Two Lines” headlamp and taillight signatures and flush door handles for a clean, upmarket look.

Interior & Features

The GV90 will ride on Hyundai’s upcoming eM platform, an evolution of the E-GMP, enabling more advanced features including first-row swivel seats, and a ‘Magic Roof’ allowing users to electronically adjust transparency. While there’s no official confirmation on the features, it could sport a premium 25-inch OLED dashboard display sourced from Samsung. Infotainment will run on Samsung’s advanced Exynos Auto V920 chip (via ETNews), promising a new digital experience for the brand.

Genesis is expected to emphasize sustainability with the use of eco-friendly materials, such as recycled fabrics and bioplastics in the doors, trims, and dashboard. Features like heated armrests (via Pulse), bi-directional vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging, facial recognition access systems, and remote autonomous parking are also on the cards.

Specifications

While the standard versions are expected to feature a dual-motor system, high-end variants could feature a triple-motor AWD configuration, delivering upwards of 600 horsepower. Battery capacity is projected at 113.2 kWh, offering around 350 miles of EPA-estimated range per charge. It is reportedly the prismatic-type, sourced from Samsung SDI (via ETNews). Fast-charging capabilities could allow the GV90 to charge from 10-80% in less than 25 minutes using 350 kW chargers.

Pricing

While U.S. pricing depends on how the auto tariff situation plays out, we don’t see a point in Genesis pushing the GV90’s starting price beyond USD 100,000.
