Since its debut in 1953, the Corvette brand has been synonymous with the American ‘sports car.’ Keeping up with the times, Chevrolet unveiled the Corvette Hybrid on January 17, 2023. While the “Corvette E-Ray” (as Chevy calls it) isn’t a full-blown EV, it’s the first-ever electrified Corvette. It is offered in coupe & hardtop Convertible versions, aimed primarily at buyers wanting a high-performance hybrid sports car.
Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid Design
The overall styling and wide-body proportions of the hybrid Corvette are similar to the gas-only Z06. The sleek, low nose section asserts its sportiness by way of large air intakes and the aggressively-sculpted front bumper. Wide-body proportions mean the Corvette Hybrid inherits the Z06’s broad and planted stance.

The extensively-flared wheel arches house enormous 345-section rear tires – some of the widest in the industry. The lightweight aluminum-finished alloy wheels (20″ front & 21″ rear) feature a new five-spoke design that’s unique to the hybrid version of the Vette. Carbon-fiber wheels in carbon flash are optional. The E-Ray gets electrically-assisted carbon ceramic brakes as standard, while minor tweaks in the bodywork result in improved aerodynamic efficiency.
An exclusive Electric Blue body-length stripe package gives the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid a distinctive styling and makes it easily identifiable. The signature ‘Stingray’ emblem aft of the engine bay has also been given a retouch, while the side scoops get bespoke ‘E-Ray’ badging. Body-colored exterior trim that gives the car a uniform look is standard, but carbon-fiber trim options are available, including one with a red stripe.

Interior & features
Like its exterior, the basic look and feel of the interior of the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid are comparable to the standard Corvette. The driver-focused cockpit, along with the aggressive driving position & low seat height lends itself to the nature of the machine quite well. While the peculiar squircle-shaped carbon fiber steering wheel and bank of buttons between the seats look familiar, Chevrolet has incorporated a few elements that are exclusive to the 2024 Corvette E-Ray.

The customizable digital instrument cluster screen of the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray has special menus that can display the status of the battery and output of the electric motor in real-time, among other drivetrain-related data. The infotainment system has a ‘Performance App’ feature that allows the driver to monitor and track details pertaining to the hybrid system’s overall performance and efficiency.
The 2024 Corvette Hybrid’s center console also sports a button to arm the auto start/stop system for the engine. While other MY2024 Corvettes will have it as well, the E-Ray is the first to debut the all-new ‘Artemis Dipped’ interior. This theme includes deep green tones on almost every surface and is limited to the 2024 model year.

Most customers will find the all-new Corvette E-Ray’s equipment list to be sufficiently comprehensive. Notable features include the Magnetic Selective Ride Control 4.0 adaptive suspension, head-up display, heated & ventilated sports seats, wireless charging pad, Performance Data Recorder, Performance Traction Management, a 14-speaker Bose Performance Series audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, carbon fiber shift paddles, and a removable roof panel (Coupe).
The 2024 Corvette Hybrid’s safety equipment includes HD front & rear parking cameras, Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.

Specifications
The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid combines the LT2 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 gas engine with a permanent magnet electric motor, located on the front axle. The electric motor generates 160 hp and 125 lb.-ft. of torque, and is tasked with spinning the front wheels. Meanwhile, the combustion powerplant produces 495 hp and 470 lb.‑ft. of torque, driving the rear wheels through the MLH 8‑speed dual‑clutch gearbox. The combined system output is 655 hp.
With the engine driving the rear wheels and the motor pushing forward the front wheels, the Corvette Hybrid is effectively an all-wheel drive vehicle – the first of its kind in the Corvette’s seven-decade history. The eAWD drivetrain layout should ensure it has enough grip on slippery wet roads when it rains and show-clad roads during the winters. So, unlike the non-electrified Corvettes, the Corvette E-Ray won’t sit parked in the garage when it’s not summer or spring.

The Corvette E-Ray comes with a small, self-charging 1.9 kWh lithium‑ion battery pack that’s placed right below the center tunnel. A ‘Charge+’ function keeps it topped up, while a ‘Stealth Mode’ enables the 2024 Corvette E-Ray to power up without any assistance from the engine and run as an EV up to 45 mph. The Stealth mode is especially useful in neighborhoods, especially during winter.
Any frantic acceleration inputs or a low battery SoC will result in the V8 engine kicking in. The automaker estimates the Corvette E-Ray’s pure-electric range to be around 5 miles, said a Car and Driver report published on January 17, 2023. The electric range may be limited, but the system’s implementation is geared more toward performance rather than the frugality of the drive.

According to Chevrolet, the 2024 Corvette E-Ray can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at approximately 130 mph. Note that the 0-60 mph time is calculated “based on initial vehicle movement, ” with the first foot of rollout subtracted. Chevrolet hasn’t published the E-Ray’s top speed, but it’s claimed to be around 180 mph, per the Car and Driver report.

TopElectricSUV says
After 70 years of being one of the most beloved American names, the E-Ray is the Corvette’s first venturing into the world of electrification. As with any brand and its famed offerings, die-hard fans of the breed may not immediately greet the Corvette Hybrid with open arms. However, with performance that promises to thrill and excite those who drive it, Chevrolet’s take on what it thinks a high-performance hybrid two-door sports car should be interesting to witness. It will be a good stepping stone to the Corvette EV that has been confirmed for later launch.
