2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV 2RS is sporty crossover on a budget

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is coming soon to U.S. dealerships, offering a new alternative to popular electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. Recently, I had a chance to explore the new electric SUV in the sporty RS variant, specifically in the 2RS trim. Here’s my take on the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV 2RS:

Design

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV 2RS features a sporty design and looks like a proper crossover. I like its aggressive front with the full-width DRL, which presents it with an intense look. The discreetly placed headlamps and textured pattern on the gloss black faux grille add a touch of sophistication. I also felt that the black bowtie further highlighted the SUV’s sporty demeanor.

Looking from the sides, I think the A-pillar is extremely raked, and along with the flush-fitted door handles, that should lead to reduced aero drag. The 21-inch alloy wheels, ORVMs, and cant rails carry a black finish. I find the rear a little weird because of the flattish deck forming in the center and the hexagonal concave surface in the lower part of the AutoSense power liftgate. I also think the diamond-shaped trim in the bumper looks better in person than in pictures.

Interior & Features

In my opinion, the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV 2RS has the sportiest interior in its segment, one that particularly young customers will appreciate. The dashboard features outboard AC vents integrated into it, and it is hard to miss the chunky housing of the air vents.

The slim central AC vents and climate control panel and the 11- and 17.7-inch freestanding displays contribute to its high-tech and elegant styling. I like the sleek steering wheel with push-operated buttons and toggle switches as well. The seats also feature a sporty design, and the black color scheme, red accent on the door cards, red stitching in the steering wheel cover, and red piping in the seat covers elevate that feeling.

The 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes built-in Google apps. According to official videos, this system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though this may not be reflecting the production model as GM has confirmed that it is ditching them in future EV launches. Chevrolet equips the 2024 Equinox EV 2RS with a panoramic sunroof with power sunshade, a backup camera, head-up display, and Bose audio system as well. Super Cruise, Driver Drowsiness Warning, LKA with LDW, FCA, and Automatic Parking Assist are among the key advanced driver assistance systems.
