2023 BMW X5 PHEV (U.S. spec): Everything we know [Update]

Update: All sections revised.

The 2023 BMW X5 PHEV quietly entered the U.S. earlier this year, with small changes. The Sports Activity Vehicle is only available in the xDrive45e variant, and is based on the second generation of the X5 plug-in hybrid was introduced in the States back in June 2020. Here’s everything we know about the 2023 X5 Plug-in hybrid:

Design & Interior

As clarified in the introduction, the 2023 BMW X5 PHEV is based on the fourth-gen non-PHEV model that arrived in the U.S. in 2018, which means that it’s devoid of any significant design changes. One of the only MY2023 updates comes from the whole X5 range dropping the Arctic Grey metallic paint option. That aside, the exterior of the X5 PHEV features a charging port next to the front-left fender plus a small ’45 e’ badge on the tailgate.

Inside, too, the X5, including the plug-in hybrid xDrive45e variant, boasts the same design as the fourth-gen non-PHEV model. Instead of SensaTec, Sensafin is now the standard upholstery across the range. It is available in Cognac, Silverstone, Black, and Coffee colors. And while the Vernasca leather upholstery option no longer exists, customers can choose from four extended Merino leather options – Ivory White, Coffee, Black, and Tartufo.

Customers checking optional packages should also take note of some other changes. The M Sport package, available on the xDrive45e, also loses out on the Vernasca leather option. It, too, gets the same Merino leather options that are listed above. BMW has dropped the Premium Package, leaving only the Executive Package on offer. Other optional packages include the Driving Assistance Professional Package, Luxury Seating Package, Parking Assistance Package, and Climate Comfort Package.
