At the 2025 Japan Mobility Show this morning, Subaru unveiled a striking hot hatch concept called the Performance E-STI, reaffirming its commitment to driving enthusiasts as it transitions into the zero-emission era. Witnessing the world premiere live in Tokyo, we saw the new EV draw strong reactions across the show floor.

The Subaru Performance E-STI features a range of aerodynamic and performance-focused components designed for drivers seeking a high-engagement experience. From our time with the concept, it appears larger than a typical compact hatchback, likely due to its integrated widebody design. Finished in Subaru’s signature blue, the all-electric STI concept presents a low-slung, sharply sculpted body that shows electric cars can still look exciting.
Up front, the convex nose section, deep front splitter, and long, sloping hood with large air vents establish a powerful stance. On the sides, large front-fender vents, multi-spoke aero-disc wheels with bronze accents, and red brake calipers extend the performance theme. Slim mirrors and a pronounced shoulder line emphasize the sleek profile and enhance aerodynamic efficiency.

At the rear, a pair of winglets and a ducktail spoiler reference Subaru’s performance heritage, while an aggressive diffuser with an integrated central brake light completes the design. The full-width light bar and angular surfaces underscore the concept’s futuristic direction.
Subaru hasn’t released technical details for the Performance E-STI or confirmed production plans. However, based on our observations in Tokyo, the design language and proportions suggest production intent.

A five-door all-electric hatchback with a dual-motor AWD system arriving within the next two to three years seems entirely plausible. The final decision would depend on market trends and consumer demand, though the U.S. would likely be among the potential markets if Subaru proceeds with production.
