First Look: X-Trail e-Power Hybrid examined ahead of the 2027 Nissan Rogue’s U.S. debut

The redesigned next-gen Nissan Rogue has been confirmed to be the brand’s first model featuring Hybrid e-Power technology in the U.S. and Canada when it arrives as a MY2027 vehicle at the end of the year.

In global markets, Nissan has offered the fuel-sipping tech since 2022 in the current platform. The SUV is marketed as the Nissan X-Trail, imported from the company’s Japanese facility.

The X-Trail e-Power is available in a FWD variant and an ‘e-4ORCE’ AWD variant. At the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show, we had a chance to see it in an accessorized AWD variant, and here are the key observations we made:

Design

Nissan has been selling Hybrid e-Power models internationally for nearly a decade now, and besides the badge, it does not visually differentiate them from standard models. Keeping with that tradition, the company has maintained the X-Trail Hybrid e-Power’s design the same as that of the gas-powered model.

Like the 2026 Rogue, the Nissan X-Trail features a rugged, space-focused exterior, sporting a contemporary crossover look. At the front, split headlamps give it an aggressive look, while the V-Motion grille dominates the central part of the upper fascia.

On the sides, Nissan has used black cladding to highlight the wheel arches and the lower part of the door panels. The company has wrapped the 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels in BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A tires.

The sleek greenhouse with sharp lines and the subtly sloping roofline provide a contrasting look. At the rear, the X-Trail Hybrid e-Power features split combination lamps and a roof spoiler. As we’ve discussed in our analysis, the 2027 Nissan Rogue is a full redesign and has nothing in common with the current SUV.

Interior

Inside, the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid e-Power has a conventional layout. Nissan has positioned the driver information and infotainment displays separately and provided buttons, switches, and knobs for everyday controls, including the sound system, air conditioning, drive modes, and 360º camera system.

Nissan offers the X-Trail Hybrid e-Power with a three-zone automatic climate control system, 10-way power-adjustable front seats with electric lumbar support, a head-up display with a 10.8-inch projection area, and a 9-speaker Bose sound system as well.

A 40:20:40-split, manually reclinable second-row seat and a 50:50-split third-row seat are other features we experienced during our time with the X-Trail Hybrid e-Power.

Advanced driver assistance systems include Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW) with Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). Six airbags are part of the standard equipment.

Specifications

Under the hood, the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid e-Power has the KR15DDT 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gas engine. This engine has no direct connection to the wheels and serves as a generator to power a lithium-ion battery and one or two electric motors, depending on the variant.

In the FWD variant, Nissan employs the BM46 electric motor producing 150 kW (201 hp) and 330 Nm (243 lb.-ft.) of torque. In the e-4ORCE AWD variant, it adds the MM48 motor at the rear, tuned to develop 100 kW (134 hp) and 195 Nm (144 lb.-ft.) of torque.

An e-Pedal Step technology reduces the need to apply the brakes, but it cannot bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

Nissan uses the second-generation e-Power technology in the current model. In the 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-Power, it will use the third-generation e-Power technology in which a dual-motor AWD setup will be standard, but without the ‘e-4ORCE’ suffix.

A key upgrade in the third-generation e-Power system is a 5-in-1 modular powertrain unit, which integrates the electric motor, inverter, reducer, and increaser. Nissan has also improved engine calibration and sound insulation, and says the latest version reduces noise and vibration under load.

In the Qashqai Hybrid e-Power, which debuted the third-gen powertrain in Europe in 2025, Nissan uses a 2.1 kWh traction battery. The company has yet to reveal the specifics of the traction battery for the 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-Power.

Nissan has confirmed a new e-Pedal function, which, unlike e-Pedal Step, can bring the vehicle to a complete stop after the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal.

Price

In Thailand, Nissan offers the X-Trail e-Power only in the e-4ORCE AWD variant, for a price of THB 1.699 million (approximately USD 52,300). In the U.S. market, we expect the next-gen Rogue e-Power Hybrid to begin at around USD 40,000.
