The XC60 refresh, which has been introduced in the U.S. for model year 2026, is not a complete facelift. However, it brings updates to areas we identified as shortcomings in our review of the 2025 model year.
We got to spend some time with the updated Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid at Auto Zurich, and here’s what we found.
Design

For the 2026 model year, the exterior introduces a revised front fascia with a new air intake design first seen on the 2026 XC90, featuring the traditional Volvo diagonal element on the grille.
The update also brings darker taillights, a wider choice of wheel options up to 21 inches, and two new exterior colors, Forest Lake (a green metallic with turquoise sparkle) and Aurora Silver (a silver metallic with a subtle purple tint).
Additionally, the Black Edition variant extends to new body colors including Crystal White, Vapour Grey, and Denim Blue.
Interior

The big change is observed in the interior where a larger 11.2-inch free-standing center display with 21 percent higher pixel density takes its place. It pairs with the familiar 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
The latest Volvo Car UX, already used in the EX30 and EX90, is now standard, offering faster response times, more intuitive layouts, and Google built-in services such as Maps, Assistant, and Play. The infotainment runs on Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, making it twice as fast and up to ten times quicker in graphics rendering, as claimed by Volvo Cars.
Cabin materials have been updated with Quilted Nordico upholstery, a bio-based alternative to leather made from recycled and bio-attributed materials sourced from Sweden and Finland. Optional Navy Herringbone Weave and Ventilated Nappa Leather upholsteries are available on higher trims.
Other enhancements include a redesigned wireless charger, improved storage layout, and new cupholder design.
Experience in the updated XC60 PHEV

Ingress in the Volvo XC60 facelift is easy thanks to its traditional door handles and lower floor height compared to an EV. Once seated, the familiar Volvo comfort is immediately noticeable. The front seats provide excellent back and under-thigh support, along with well-contoured side bolsters. Even with the panoramic glass roof, I had plenty of headroom, and the seating position feels just right for long drives.
The crystal gear selector remains a signature Volvo detail that adds a sense of refinement. The new touchscreen system is more responsive than before, though I still prefer physical controls for air conditioning. Thankfully, Volvo has kept physical buttons for the volume, defrosters, and hazard lights, which makes basic operations more intuitive.
Moving to the second row, I had enough knee and legroom for my six-foot frame. The seatback angle feels comfortable even though it doesn’t recline. Under-thigh support is very good, and the wide windows and large glass roof make the cabin feel airy.
The outboard seats are heated, and air vents are mounted on the pillars to direct airflow toward the torso. Two USB ports, map pockets, and a small cubby add convenience. The middle seat is usable only for short trips due to the floor hump and raised cushion, but the foldable center armrest with cupholders improves comfort for two passengers.
Ambient light from the panoramic roof and reading lamps above the B-pillar enhance the overall feel.
