The compact McMurtry Speirling prototype that set a new Goodwood hillclimb record in 2022 has finally evolved into a production electric hypercar. We had an opportunity to check out the McMurtry Speirling Pure at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Exterior
We couldn’t do the usual First Look Review format, as the company suspended the road conversion prototype vehicle upside down to get visitors talking about the insane two-tonne downforce that its spinning fans generate.
In person, the McMurtry Speirling Pure looks much bigger than the prototype shown in 2022. Measuring 150.2 in. in length and 70.7 in. in width, it is 11% longer and 14% wider, while the wheelbase has grown by 10% to 86.6 in. The electric hypercar is 41.6 in. tall.
The production model features headlights to enable driving in the evening, at night, and in other low-visibility conditions. It has a cargo area to keep a helmet and HANS device underneath a swan-neck-style rear wing.
Interior
Built around a new carbon-fiber monocoque, the McMurtry Speirling Pure has a single-seat cabin that is suitable for drivers with a height of up to 6 ft. 7 in.
McMurtry has made ingress and egress easier with wider doors and increased the elbow room and leg room. The car features a custom-molded seat and adjustable pedals, and AC is available as an option.
Specifications
At 2,980 lbs, the Speirling Pure is significantly heavier than the prototype, and much of that added weight, besides the larger body, comes from a new battery pack. McMurtry has replaced the 60 kWh battery pack with a 100 kWh unit.
The larger battery pack consists of Taiwanese supplier Molicel’s ‘P50B’ NCA 21700 cells and can be charged from 20% to 95% SoC as quickly as 20 minutes. When raced at Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) speeds, the charging lasts for 25-31 miles.
Two new Helix drive motors, paired with an upgraded gearbox, power the rear wheels. Packing 1,000 horsepower, the McMurtry Speirling Pure reaches 60 mph from a standstill in just 1.55 seconds (with one-foot roll-out) and takes 8 seconds for a quarter-mile run. Flat out, the electric hypercar goes up to 190 mph.
Another technical highlight of the Speirling Pure is a fan-based ‘Downforce-on-Demand’ system. Two custom-designed fans spinning at up to 23,000 rpm draw air from a sealed area beneath the chassis through filters, allowing the system to produce up to 2,000 kg (4,409 lbs) of downforce from the word go.
Price & Release Date
In the U.S., the McMurtry Speirling Pure will cost around USD 1.3 million before taxes, shipping, and options. McMurtry will commence deliveries in the UK later in 2026. It could announce the U.S. launch timeline when it holds the public debut at the Monterey Car Week on August 14.
