Honda’s hybrid success hasn’t carried forward to its EVs, but the upcoming 0 SUV could be a turning point. Despite its unconventional design, the Japanese automaker is counting on its first truly global electric SUV to crack key EV markets such as North America and Europe.
During our visit to the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, we closely examined the prototype version of the Honda 0 SUV. Here are some interesting observations we made:
Exterior

The Honda 0 SUV Prototype previews a midsize electric SUV based on the Space-Hub concept from CES 2024. The concept expresses Honda’s vision of EVs as open, people-focused spaces. True to that idea, the 0 SUV’s design is defined by its upright, airy body shape and expansive glass area. The result is an exterior that emphasizes interior space and visibility rather than aggressive styling.
Honda has applied its “Thin, Light, and Wise” design philosophy to the 0 SUV, reducing unnecessary visual bulk. This approach enhances efficiency and aerodynamics while ensuring a more human-centered cabin.
The long wheelbase, and the short front overhang and bonnet lend the vehicle a unique stance for an SUV of its class. Even though it appears unconventional compared to Honda’s mainstream crossovers like the CR-V or Pilot, its clean surfacing and LED lighting elements convey that it’s a Honda from the future.
Our experience with the Honda 0 SUV

Unconventional proportions aside, I noticed during my time up close with the Honda 0 SUV at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show that it is perfectly sized for the U.S. market. I liked the tight and precise panel gaps, the unblemished expansive surfaces, and sleek lighting on the exterior. The aerodynamically designed 21-inch five-spoke wheels looked close to production.
Interior

The dashboard and window lines sit unusually low, creating an unobstructed outward view that reinforces the “space” concept. A floating central display and a flat floor maximize the sense of width, while flexible seating allows for multiple configurations depending on the trip.
Honda says the 0 SUV’s interior aims to serve as an “ever-advancing” space, evolving through software updates and individual customization. Its new ASIMO OS, derived from the company’s robotics expertise, is expected to be central to this experience.
Using data and AI-based learning, ASIMO OS can tailor the in-car environment and user interface to each driver, adjusting settings and even interaction styles. The emphasis is on making the SUV not just a mode of transport but a personalized digital companion.
Our experience with the Honda 0 SUV

A close look at the 2025 Honda 0 SUV’s interior suggests it is nearing production maturity. The conventional seat shapes, visible floor hump, and straightforward door cards all point toward a feasible, real-world execution. With the exception of the steering yoke, much of the cabin already looks ready for a showroom environment.
Specifications

Like the 0 Saloon, the SUV is based on Honda’s newly developed dedicated EV architecture, which has been engineered for reduced weight without compromising rigidity, improved aerodynamics and packaging efficiency.
The 0 SUV features dynamics control using attitude estimation and stabilization technology derived from Honda’s robotics programs. Its 3D gyro sensors monitor body movement in real time to offer stability and responsiveness depending on road surfaces.
The new model will also integrate Level 3 automated driving functions supported by Honda Sensing Elite. With the help of the new ASIMO OS, the vehicle will coordinate automated driving, driver assistance, and infotainment features through a single software-defined architecture, along with OTA capability.
Honda is co-developing a high-performance system-on-chip with Renesas for the future 0 Series vehicles. This new SoC will deliver up to 2,000 TOPS of AI performance with industry-leading energy efficiency.
While Honda hasn’t disclosed range, motor specifications, or battery capacity, the company says the 0 SUV will prioritize efficiency, low weight, and responsive handling. These are key areas where it expects to surpass its previous EVs like the Prologue.
