First Look: Honda’s 0 Alpha is the future entry point for its electric SUVs

We got to see Honda unveil the 0 Alpha prototype at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, marking the world premiere of the third model in its next-generation 0 Series of electric vehicles.

The Honda 0 Alpha joins the previously revealed 0 Saloon and 0 SUV from CES 2025 and will serve as the entry-level model to the brand’s new electric lineup. However, it doesn’t look like it will reach the U.S., as it’s more for the emerging markets where Honda doesn’t have a low-cost model.

Design

At the front, the inverted U-shaped lights, charging door, and illuminated emblem form a futuristic look. At the rear, a U-shaped lighting signature borders the upright windshield, with horizontal LED strips integrated in the bumper. We expect pillar-mounted rear door handles to complete the minimalist look on the sides, while the vehicle has ample ground clearance to tackle bad roads.

In person, the 0 Alpha prototype resembles a miniaturized 0 SUV, sporting a similar silhouette and design details. The thick C-pillar could affect rearward visibility by creating a sizable blind spot, though Honda is likely to address this obvious issue in the production model with a smart 360-degree camera system.

Interior

While the company hasn’t given interior details and presented the concept with heavily tinted windows, it says it has applied its “Thin, Light, and Wise” development philosophy to the 0 Alpha, focusing on efficiency and packaging. The minivan-like roofline and rear pillar design hint at a class-leading boot space.

Honda says that the “Thin” approach has allowed designers to achieve a lower overall height without sacrificing interior comfort, and this hints at a rear seat posture that’s not knees-up.

Specifications & Release Date

While technical details haven’t been released, we expect a roughly 65 kWh battery to deliver a range of 250-300 miles (WLTP), with a single-motor powertrain delivering 140-180 hp. Production will begin ahead of a global rollout starting in 2027, with Japan and India confirmed as launch markets.
