Along with the Genesis Magma GT Concept, the electrified Genesis GMR-001 is making its Asia debut at the 2026 Busan Mobility Show in South Korea. Genesis is showcasing a full-scale design model of the latter at the event, and we had a chance to get up close with this special display.
The Genesis GMR-001 is the brand’s first purpose-built endurance racing car, developed by its racing arm, Genesis Magma Racing. Hyundai Motorsport and Oreca were also involved in the project, with the former focusing on the powertrain and the latter providing the chassis.
Powering the Genesis GMR-001 is an in-house ‘G8MR’ 3.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, formed using a combination of two inline-four units, along with a 50 kW (67 hp) electric motor developed by Bosch.
Other driveline components include a 7-speed sequential gearbox from Xtrac and a battery pack from Williams Advanced Engineering. In total, there’s 690 PS (680 hp) of power available at tap.
The GMR-001 has typical LMDh racing car bodywork, including an enclosed cockpit, massive front splitter, dive planes, wheel-arch vents, roof intake, dorsal fin, huge rear wing, and large rear diffuser. In person, what makes it instantly recognizable as a Genesis is the brand’s signature Two-Line lighting at the front and rear.
Another interesting detail we noticed is that this Genesis GMR-001 wears the new livery introduced for the car’s Le Mans debut in June 2026. The race car features a gradient color scheme, transitioning from Magma Orange at the front to deep crimson at the rear.
Genesis Magma Racing fielded two cars at Le Mans, one of which retired after 16 hours because of a technical issue, while the other finished 13th overall. For a new team and a new car, the overall result was impressive.
Inside, the Genesis GMR-001 has a stripped-out, function-first cockpit designed around weight savings and driver ergonomics. We noticed that the narrow race cabin includes a bucket seat, yoke-style steering wheel with an integrated display and multiple controls, a switch panel, communication equipment, and a multi-point harness.

Genesis should use lessons learned from the development and racing program of the GMR-001 for the road-going Magma GT. The company could launch that model as its first supercar by 2028.
