First Look Review: Blazer EV SS is the sportiest Chevy SUV in years

After a long wait, the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS appeared on the company’s U.S. configurator earlier this year. Having spent some time observing and configuring the car, here are our thoughts on the high-performance midsize SUV.

Design

The 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS looks sleeker than the gas-powered SUV. It sits low to the ground, featuring a sharply dropping roofline for a dynamic character. At the front, LED DRL bars that meet an illuminated Chevrolet logo cover the width of the SUV, the hood flexes its muscles, and an A-shaped grille leaves a dominant impression. My favorite design elements here are the horizontal blades below the headlamps and the front splitter, which add sharpness to its looks.

On the sides, the designers have created tension with curves and sculpting on the doors and quarter panels. The SUV has a long wheelbase and short overhangs, setting the expectation of a high level of space efficiency. I think the 22-inch six-double-spoke wheels look quite sporty, but what I find more attractive is the low, sloped roofline. The black roof, in particular, enhances this effect, making the upper half of the body appear sleeker.

At the rear, the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS sits low and wide, which gives it a sporty stance. It’s equipped with T-shaped wraparound tail lamps, yet lacks a connecting light strip between them, giving it a more conventional look. I’ve observed that GM has opted against the increasingly common narrow light bands between tail lamps in EVs, a design feature absent in recent production EVs like the Hummer EV twins, Silverado EV, and Lyriq.

The 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS does give off the vibe of what a hypothetical Camaro SUV could have been!

The roof-integrated spoiler on the Chevrolet Blazer EV RS extends downwards, wrapping around the sides of the windshield. While I’m not particularly fond of its rear-end, the low and wide stance, consistent with the front, isn’t short of aggression or appeal.

Interior

Sharing the frame and body with the standard SUV, the Blazer EV SS is low to the ground, yet ingress is comfortable even for a six-foot-tall adult.

The Blazer EV sits on a dedicated electric platform, which means a long wheelbase and a flat floor. That translates to good space and comfort. From the driver’s seat, the cabin feels roomy, even for someone who’s six feet tall. Despite the vehicle’s low height, headroom in the front isn’t an issue. In the back, the space is decent too.

There’s good knee room, but taller passengers may find headroom a bit tight. The seats, upholstered in the exclusive red Evotex artificial leather, strike a good balance between form and function.

The 2025 Blazer EV SS features a compact steering wheel with a flat bottom and physical buttons, sculpted AC vents with a turbine design, physical controls for the AC and the volume, and a driver-focused, tilted center console for ease of access and minimized distraction.

Infotainment

I have no doubt that many Americans will miss the familiar features of Apple CarPlay, which is notably absent in GM’s electric vehicles.

The infotainment system includes a knob to offer physical volume control. Moreover, there are switches and knobs for most of the climate control system functions. At the core of the infotainment system is GM’s Android-based software platform, which supports over-the-air upgrades, personalization options, and cloud connectivity.

Controls

The drive selector is mounted on the column, freeing up space in the center console area for storage. My only gripe here is that GM could have added physical controls for the headlamps instead of putting it in the screen.

GM has designed buttons, switches, and dials for all the core functions, which is something I particularly like in this interior. These offer physical feedback and ease of use. Thanks to a hands-free start system, all the driver needs to do to turn on the vehicle is just step in with the key fob and tap the brake.

Cargo

None of the Blazer EV variants offer a frunk, but there’s enough space at the rear for the bags of four adults on a road trip. Pictured is the RS AWD model.

The 2025 Blazer EV SS doesn’t have a frunk (front trunk), just a normal mid-size SUV cargo hold behind the seats. Apparently, GM found it was better to use the space under the hood for the front motor and heavy electronics so that the cabin can be more spacious. Folding down the rear seats generates 59.2 cu. ft. of cargo volume.

Specifications

The 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS is underpinned by GM’s BEV3 platform, which supports the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX as well, besides a slew of GM EVs.

The 2025 Blazer EV SS has two motors, giving it an AWD layout. With the boost mode engaged, these motors can temporarily produce up to 615 hp and up to 650 lb.-ft. of torque and push the SUV forward from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The two motors of the 2025 Blazer EV SS get their juice from a 102 kWh battery pack that is expected to support charging at up to 11.5 kW (AC)/190 kW (DC). The EPA-est. range of the Blazer EV SS is 303 miles.
