After years of rumors, the first-ever all-electric BMW M3, one that’ll also come to the U.S., is finally inching closer to reality. It will be an evolution of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, which in turn is a follow-up to the BMW Vision Driving Experience.
Following our experience with the BMW Vision Driving Experience at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show earlier this year, we had a chance to get up close with the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Here are our thoughts about the latest M3 EV concept:
Design
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse puts an aggressive spin on the BMW i3 sedan. It sits lower and has a wider track, which gives it a more performance-focused stance.
At the front, the yellow segment of the DRLs brings GT racing-inspired styling and conveys track-readiness. A trimaran-style bumper, motorsport-inspired splitter, a V-shaped hood vent, and two vertically stacked track lights in the outer sections are among the highlights here, offering a clear identity for the electric M3.
On the sides, BMW M has come up with a sleeker and more aerodynamic design for the mirrors. The flared wheel arches house exclusive 21-inch cross-spoke alloys wrapped in 335/30 ZR21 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires designed for speeds up to 300 km/h (186 mph).
The upright rear sports a ducktail spoiler, a heavily sculpted bumper with two vertically stacked track lights along the outer edges, and a floating diffuser.
Interior
Inspecting the concept closely, we noticed that the interior of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse has the same layout as the 2027 i3 but with numerous visual and functional upgrades that make it a significantly more driver-focused vehicle.
The minimalist dashboard has a simpler architecture and is further distinguished with black knit trim and hexagonal backlighting. The center console houses a specially designed gear selector.
The sports steering wheel with 4- and 8-o’clock spokes features M-specific performance buttons and red highlights. BMW M has equipped the car with two bucket seats in the front and two in the rear, featuring Bathurst Blue and Berry Red upholstery. Another interior highlight is a structural roll bar.
Specifications
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse sports four electric motors, two each on the front and rear axles. A battery pack with an operating voltage of 800 volts and an energy storage capacity of over 100 kWh powers these motors. It comprises an optimized version of the 2027 i3’s cylindrical cells.
BMW M CEO Frank van Meel has confirmed that the production version will be called M3, not BMW iM3. BMW Blog reported on the same day that the final car will pack around 900 hp, and more powerful variants with over 1,000 hp could follow.
Release Date & Pricing
According to a previous report from BMWBlog, the pure-electric BMW M3 will enter production in March 2027. This suggests BMW M could reveal the M3 EV at the start of 2027, and U.S. sales could begin later the same year. We’re expecting prices to start north of USD 80,000 when it eventually arrives stateside.
