First Look Review: Alfa Romeo Tonale facelift has upgrades across the board

Following its global premiere late last year, we got up close with the mild-hybrid variant of the facelifted European-spec Alfa Romeo Tonale in the mild hybrid variant recently, and here are the changes that we observed during our experience.

Design

Up front, the refreshed Alfa Romeo Tonale switches to a three-dimensional, concave “Scudetto” grille and a revised take on the brand’s Trilobe front-end theme. We also noticed that the front and rear tracks are made to appear wider and the front overhang shorter, giving the C-SUV a broader stance.

Wheel choices expand with new 19-inch “Stile” and 20-inch “Fori” design options. We also noticed black-and-white Alfa Romeo emblems at the front and rear, plus black “Tonale” rear lettering on Veloce and Sport Speciale trims, which further differentiate the facelift.

The Sport Speciale gets darkened rear windows, silver accents, and badging. It also pairs the two-tone black roof with those detailing touches and a black-and-white Alcantara cabin.

The paint lineup increases to eight colors, adding Brera Red, Monza Green, and Ocra. A contrasting black roof is optional, with or without a sunroof.

Interior

Changes to the cabin focus on materials, lighting, and the center console, following an update in 2024. New upholstery includes red leather “cannelloni” seats and a black-and-white two-tone Alcantara option. Contrasting stitching can be seen across the dashboard, door cards, and armrest.

The central tunnel gets redesigned with a rotary gear selector, while aluminum paddles remain on the steering wheel. Ambient lighting adds a gradient effect. Leather and Alcantara cabins also add eight-way power front seats, four-way lumbar support, heating and ventilation, plus a heated steering wheel and heated washer nozzles.

Tech continues with a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus OTA updates, along with Level 2 driver assistance, a 360-degree camera, and semi-automatic parking.

Specifications

Powertrains carry over but with updated Euro 6E-bis calibration, 173 hp for the 1.5-liter 48V Ibrida, and up to 267 hp for the Q4 Ibrida Plug-In. A revised hybrid control processor targets smoother engine-to-motor transitions.

Chassis highlights include brake-by-wire, four-piston Brembo front brakes, a 13.6:1 steering ratio, and optional adaptive damping using Dual Stage Valve electronic suspension or Frequency Selective Damping shocks.

The range also gets a clearer structure, starting with a new entry-level Tonale below Ti and Veloce, and adding a launch Sport Speciale series at the top of the lineup.
