The 2026 Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid was revealed for the U.S. in Los Angeles late last year. Recently, we got to check out the top-end X-Line SX-Prestige variant painted in the Snow White Pearl exterior color, paired with the Terracotta Brown interior.
This is the first refresh of the PHEV variant since its U.S. debut, with sharper looks, a cleaner interior, better tech, and a power boost. It is expected to arrive at U.S. dealers in the coming months.
Design

Kia has toughened up the Sportage PHEV’s appearance for MY26, making it the most aggressive variant in the family. The front end now sports vertical headlamps with cube-style projectors and amber “Star Map” DRLs. The upper grille is more squared-off, and the bumper features new inserts and integrated fog lamps. At the rear, the Star Map light signature continues in the redesigned taillights with a clear lens effect.
Chunky new 19-inch alloy wheels round off the exterior changes. Overall, the look is more rugged and blocky, in line with what U.S. buyers want from their compact SUV.
Interior & Equipment
Inside, the 2026 Sportage Plug-in Hybrid looks cleaner and more upmarket. A revised dashboard, with streamlined air-conditioning vents, houses new dual 12.3-inch screens within a rectangular panel. They upgrade to the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) operating system, which also supports OTA updates, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The two-spoke steering wheel is a new addition, and the center console has ditched the gloss black finish.

Other additions include a 10-inch head-up display, NBA-themed Kia Connect customization, and Digital Key 2.0 for smartphone-based access and sharing. ADAS has been upgraded with Highway Driving Assist 2, Park Distance Warning (front, side, and rear), and an enhanced Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. The 2026 Sportage PHEV now detects oncoming vehicles more effectively and can auto-brake for pedestrians, cyclists, and other cars.
Experience in the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid
As someone six feet tall, I had no trouble getting in or out of the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid. The 10-way power driver’s seat with memory, lumbar support, heating, and ventilation was mostly comfortable, though I’d prefer better under-thigh support. Headroom was fine, and the heated steering wheel felt good in hand.
Sitting behind the driver’s seat, adjusted to my six-foot frame, the rear seat offered enough space for another tall adult, with good leg and knee room. The rear bench reclines, and heating is included in the top-end variant. Three adults in the back would feel tight, especially if they’re six-footers.
Specifications
The 2026 model continues with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine but now pairs it with a stronger 72 kW motor, up from 66.9 kW. The combined output is now 268 horsepower, 7 more than before. This revised setup is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard. Towing capacity remains unchanged at 2,000 pounds. The lithium-ion battery pack retains the 13.8 kWh capacity, so the estimated 34-mile electric-only range should carry over from the outgoing model.
Price & Release Date

Kia has just announced prices for the 2026 Sportage gas model which is assembled in the U.S., shielding it from the 25% import tariff on passenger vehicles by the Trump administration. However, the Sportage Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid variants are imported from South Korea, and it remains to be seen how much of an impact the higher duties have on the prices of the refreshed electrified models.
If a new trade deal is worked out with South Korea, we expect prices to consistently stay in the USD 40,000-50,000 range for the X-Line and X-Line Prestige models. We’ll update as soon as Kia America makes an announcement on the detailed specs and pricing.
