The hybrid-only 2026 Jeep Cherokee returns after a gap of two years with an all-new design and a significantly reworked cabin with more space and features along with new standard safety equipment.
We recently had an opportunity to check out the 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited variant in person, and here are our first impressions of Jeep’s hybrid compact SUV.
Design

Built on the STLA Large platform, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee adopts a redesigned exterior that is longer, taller, and wider than the previous generation with upright proportions and sharp edges. At the front, boxy LED headlights form a U-shaped signature, paired with squared daytime running lights. Jeep’s seven-slot grille sits higher and more vertically than before.
Moving to the sides, the profile features simple surfaces and bold shapes that hint at historical Cherokee models. Wheels vary from 17 inches on the Cherokee to 20 inches on the Overland variant. At the rear, the 2026 Cherokee uses a jerry-can-inspired taillight design that forms a recognizable light signature.
Interior

Getting in, the first thing we noticed was the spacious interior compared to the 2023 model. The cabin introduces a larger cockpit with increased storage and a rotary gear selector to open up space on the center console. Across materials and layout, Jeep incorporates four motifs: active, playful, practical, and progressive.
Material choices vary based on the trims, where Global Black is standard, while Arctic appears on Laredo, Limited, and Overland. The Overland trim also adds a unique perforation pattern on the seats. Sustainability themes appear through non-leather materials and recycled elements in the floor carpets.
Standard features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Optional equipment includes a dual-pane sunroof, a foot-activated power liftgate, a 360-degree camera, a digital rearview mirror, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
Experience in the 2026 Jeep Cherokee

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee Hybrid introduces a redesigned exterior with flush, unconventional door handles, but the more notable changes are inside the cabin which is very spacious for its class.
Seat comfort stands out immediately, with excellent back support, strong shoulder bolstering, and very good under-thigh support. Headroom in the first row is sufficient for a six-footer. The steering wheel has a chunky, polygonal shape with grey accents that feels premium.
The soft-touch upper dashboard, textured mid-section, and layered grey trim pieces are interesting, but the piano black around the start-stop button and drive selector takes away from the overall feel because it attracts fingerprints and doesn’t elevate the cabin by all that much. The dual-pane sunroof contributes to an airy feel, and outward visibility is good thanks to large glass areas.

With the driver’s seat set for a six-footer, the second row offers just enough knee room for someone the same height. Large footwear can slide under the front seats, and headroom remains good. The rear seats offer supportive cushioning that feels better than expected in this class.
The bench, which can fit three adults, does not recline or slide, so there is no flexibility in its position. A slight floor hump reduces comfort for the center passenger, making the middle seat less suited for longer trips. Visibility for rear occupants is excellent because of the sizable windows, quarter glass panels, and the expansive sunroof.
Specifications

The vehicle measures 188.1 inches in length, 74.7 inches in width, and 67.5 inches in height, with a 113-inch wheelbase and 8 inches of ground clearance. Cargo capacity increases by 30 percent compared to the previous Cherokee.
The hybrid system combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and a battery for a total system output of 210 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque. Jeep estimates 37 mpg combined and lists over 500 miles of total driving range.
