First Look Review: 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid gets lower entry price

The 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a carry-over model which retains the design and engineering updates that the model received in the 2024 model. However, Hyundai hopes it can keep the midsize sedan competitive against the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Honda Accord Hybrid by streamlining the trim levels and lowering the entry price with a new Blue trim.

We recently had the opportunity to experience the 2026 Hyundai Sonata Limited Hybrid trim in the Aero Silver body color, and here is what we found.

Design

In person, the 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid remains visually indistinguishable from the model revealed in 2024. At the front, a horizontal layout integrates the “Seamless Horizon Lamp,” wide-set hidden headlights, a massive grille, and large air intakes.

Moving to the side, the low-slung profile, coupe-like roofline, and a sharp character line give the family sedan a bold look. The Blue trim gets smaller and narrower 16-inch wheels for efficiency, while the SEL and Limited get larger 17-inch wheels.

At the rear, the H-shaped taillights remain our favorite exterior feature. The boot lid incorporates a black spoiler-shaped design element, and the lower bumper features exhaust-shaped styling cues.

Interior

The 2026 Sonata Hybrid brings interior changes driven by the introduction of the Blue trim and feature adjustments within the existing lineup. The Blue Hybrid is a new entry point for 2026, and it adopts a simpler cabin configuration than anything offered in last year’s Hybrid range.

This trim features premium cloth upholstery, a 6-way manual driver’s seat and a smaller 4.2-inch instrument display. These equipment levels did not exist in the Hybrid lineup in 2025, as the range began at SEL.

Some features available on the 2025 SEL Hybrid are no longer offered on the SEL for 2026. Built-in navigation, which was optional last year, is now reserved exclusively for the Limited. Digital Key 2.0 Premium, previously standard on the SEL Hybrid, is also removed for 2026, leaving the Limited as the only Hybrid trim with the feature.

The panoramic sunroof, which was available only on the upper trims in 2025, is now offered across the Hybrid lineup, including the new Blue grade. The Limited Hybrid keeps its 12.3-inch digital cluster and 12.3-inch navigation unit, further distinguishing it from the lower trims, which continue without built-in navigation.

Specifications

The mechanical setup of the 2026 Sonata Hybrid carries over from 2025, but the lineup and equipment structure differ a bit. The new Blue Hybrid introduces a smaller wheel and tire package, using 205/65R16 tires. The SEL and Limited continue with the 17-inch spec for 2026.

The availability of Digital Key 2.0 Premium changes for 2026. It was standard on the SEL and Limited Hybrid trims in 2025, but it becomes exclusive to the Limited this year. Built-in navigation also becomes a Limited-only feature, whereas the SEL Hybrid could be optioned with it last year.

The 2026 Sonata Hybrid is available only in front-wheel drive and uses a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed transmission coupled with a 51 hp electric motor, which gives a combined output of 192 hp.

Fuel-economy figures are consistent with 2025, though the introduction of the Blue Hybrid adds a new EPA rating to the hierarchy. The Blue Hybrid is listed at 51 mpg combined, while the SEL and Limited continue with a 47 mpg combined estimate.
