First Look Review: 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 gets trail-ready capability

The 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4, the upmarket cousin of the Chevy Silverado EV Trail Boss, is an off-road-focused variant with long-range capability and standard four-wheel steering.

For 2026, the Sierra EV gains an additional standard-range battery option for the Denali trim and introduces a new base Elevation trim offered in standard- and extended-range configurations, along with the more off-road-focused AT4 trim available in extended- and max-range variants.

We recently had the opportunity to check out the 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 trim, and here is what we experienced.

Design

Styling for the 2026 GMC Sierra EV Denali remains largely unchanged. That said, the AT4 trim receives new blacked-out panels between the headlamps that form a strong, closed-off grille with chrome outlining and an embossed mesh pattern.

Off-road exterior cues include a bold red GMC badge, red tow hooks, and a small AT4 badge finished in silver and red to differentiate the trim.

Moving to the sides, the AT4 adopts a lifted coil suspension and adds 2 inches of ground clearance over the Elevation trim, reaching 10.0 inches, while riding on 35-inch all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch wheels. At the rear, changes remain subtle, with the primary visual identifiers being the red GMC logo and AT4 badge on the tailgate.

New exterior paint options for the 2026 Denali lineup include Glacier White Tri-Coat and Magnus Matte, with Moonlight Matte being discontinued. The AT4 additionally gains Coastal Dune and Deep Bronze Metallic finishes alongside existing colors.

Interior

The AT4 features an exclusive Forest Storm interior theme, along with a premium Bose seven-speaker audio system that sets it apart from the Elevation and Denali trims. Standard comfort features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and a heated steering wheel.

Driver information is displayed on an 11-inch screen, complemented by a 14-inch head-up display, while infotainment duties are handled by a large 16.8-inch diagonal touchscreen with Google built-in. Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance technology is standard on the AT4, with a three-year plan included.

Specifications

The 2026 Sierra EV AT4 offers a GM-estimated driving range of up to 390 miles with the Extended Range battery, and up to 478 miles with the Max Range battery. The electrical architecture is capable of adding up to 100 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes on compatible chargers.

Power is supplied by a dual-motor electric drivetrain, with one motor on each axle operating through an electronic all-wheel-drive system. Output reaches 625 hp with the Extended Range battery, and increases to 725 hp with the Max Range battery. Torque output is rated at up to 775 lb-ft.

The AT4 introduces a trim-exclusive Terrain Mode designed for low-speed off-road control. Four-Wheel Steer is standard and includes CrabWalk functionality, allowing diagonal vehicle movement at low speeds. Maximum towing capacity is rated at 12,300 pounds, and maximum payload is 1,950 pounds.
