First Look Review: 2026 GMC Hummer EV Pickup features some hidden changes

The 2026 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is best described as a software-driven evolution of the 2025 truck.

It builds on the existing platform with increased peak horsepower and 24-module battery pack, the introduction of King Crab rear-steer functionality, revised display and software, new safety features, a slightly refreshed interior, and a limited-run Carbon Fiber Edition, all without mechanical or structural changes.

We recently spent some time with the new Carbon Fiber Edition to evaluate the updates for the new model year, and here is what we found.

Design

Exterior updates for 2026 include two new paint options, Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte, apart from which the vehicle remains visually unchanged.

The limited-production Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup introduces a Magnus Gray Matte exterior with exterior components finished in black, including emblems, approach shields, and skid plates. Unique 22-inch carbon-fiber black wheels are standard on the Carbon Fiber Edition, paired with all-terrain tires.

At the front, a tall, upright fascia continues to be dominated by a broad grille panel framed by squared-off LED headlamps, connected by a full-width lighting signature.

From the side, the 2026 Hummer EV Pickup looks familiar, featuring massive 35-inch tires with pronounced wheel arches, slab-sided bodywork with short overhangs, and a high beltline that enhances its off-road-ready look. Moving to the rear, vertical LED taillamps mirror the front lighting theme, flanking a wide tailgate stamped with HUMMER branding.

Interior

The cabin layout for the 2026 model year remains mostly consistent with previous Hummer EV Pickup model years, but now offers two new interior themes named Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse. The Carbon Fiber Edition includes a Velocity Ember interior with color accents highlighting surface contours to help it stand apart.

GMC has downsized the driver information display (instrument cluster) from 12.3 inches to 11 inches for the 2026 model year.

While infotainment is handled by the same 13.4-inch display with customizable split-screen functionality, paired with a Bose 14-speaker audio system, wireless phone projection (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) has been deleted for the 2026 model year.

In terms of safety, the 2026 model gains Rear Pedestrian Alert, Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering, Driver Attention Assist, Side Bicyclist Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition, 5G vehicle connectivity, and Super Cruise steering wheel.

Experience in the 2026 Hummer EV Pickup

Ingress and egress require the use of side steps due to the vehicle’s height, with pillar-mounted grab handles aiding access for both front and rear occupants. The cabin materials lean toward a premium feel, using leather-alternative seating surfaces.

The steering wheel includes physical controls for cruise control, driver assistance functions, and instrument cluster navigation. Additional buttons below the touchscreen manage off-road functions such as differential lock and traction control. Drive modes are selected via a rotary controller on the center console, while the steering column offers power tilt-and-telescopic adjustment with memory.

Forward visibility is affected by a high hood line, tall dashboard, short windshield, and thick A-pillars. Large, flat side windows provide strong lateral visibility, and rear visibility remains usable.

Front seats feature 12-way power adjustment, four-way lumbar support, heating, ventilation, and driver memory. Headroom and legroom are ample, and the center armrest provides substantial support. Under-thigh and lumbar support are adequate, and side bolstering is supportive.

The rear uses a 60/40 split bench. Outboard seats offer heating, acceptable legroom, and sufficient knee room, while the middle position suffers from a raised floor, high knee angle, firm backrest, and limited under-thigh support.

Specifications

The 2026 Hummer EV Pickup comes standard with 4WD in either dual-motor (2X) or triple-motor (3X) form, with the 3X offering an available 24-module battery pack.

GMC lists output of up to 570 horsepower and 7,400 lb-ft of torque with an estimated range of 316 miles for the 2X variant. The 24-module-equipped 3X variant produces up to 1,160 horsepower and 13,000 lb-ft of torque for 2026, up from the previous model year’s 1,000-horsepower peak, enabling acceleration from 0-60 mph in a crazy 2.8 seconds.

Four-wheel steering remains standard, with the introduction of a new rear-steer mode called King Crab. When activated, the rear wheels turn faster than the front wheels to improve maneuverability in tight off-road environments, including rock crawling and obstacle navigation.

King Crab mode is standard on 2X and 3X Pickup trims and will also be delivered to 2022-2025 Hummer EV models via an over-the-air update.

The 2026 Hummer EV Pickup adds bidirectional charging capability, offering vehicle-to-vehicle charging and vehicle-to-home functionality when properly equipped.
