The second-gen Lexus NX Hybrid, which debuted in 2021, has received its third update, transitioning into a MY2024 model in the U.S. market. This suited-and-booted cousin of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has recently started arriving at Lexus U.S. dealerships. At this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, I had the an opportunity to examine the 2024 Lexus NX Hybrid (NX 350h AWD). Here’s what I think about the new hybrid SUV:
Design

The second-gen Lexus NX Hybrid features an evolutionary design, and I feel like it is beginning to show its age. It boasts an athletic body that blends curved and sharp design elements. However, I think its front-end could be enhanced with a more elegant grille, similar to what’s seen on the 2024 Lexus RX Hybrid or the 2024 Lexus TX Hybrid, to give it a more contemporary look.
The 2024 NX Hybrid has a sporty and dynamic character, emphasized by elements like the mesh grille inserts (on the F-Sport Handling grade), the L-shaped DRL in the triple-beam headlamps, short overhangs, and the raked back glass. I quite like the L-shaped tail lamps and the light blade between them as well. As part of the MY2024 changes, Lexus has introduced a 20-inch wheel option on the Luxury package.

Production of the 2024 NX Hybrid takes place in Canada. While inspecting the vehicle for panel gaps and potential manufacturing defects, the only irregularity I noticed was a marginally wider gap in the bonnet shutline over the fender compared to other tightly fitting body panels. The paint finish on the new hybrid SUV was of high quality, contributing to its overall premium feel.
Interior
The 2024 Lexus NX Hybrid has a modern and classy interior, but I do see room for improvement. The plain passenger-side dashboard and the 7-inch driver information display look a bit too basic for 2024. Lexus has integrated the infotainment system in a sleek floating panel on the dashboard, which is beautifully connected to the center console console. Speaking of the center console, it has a storage box under the armrest and that space is big enough to keep things like small grocery bags or books.

The best tech feature of the 2024 NX Hybrid is undoubtedly the locally-developed infotainment system, which comes with a 14-inch touchscreen, supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto and features cloud navigation. I felt that this infotainment system has a slick UI and its menu structure is easy to understand and operate. The funky temperature adjustment dials with built-in temperature displays are like a cherry on top of the cake. It’s worth mentioning here that Lexus has included a power button-cum-volume knob as well.
I found the physical controls in the 2024 NX Hybrid to be of high quality and they gave me a tactile feedback. Some places in the cabin, mostly those that easily go unnoticed like the lower part of the dashboard and doors, had hard plastic. While checking these places, I noticed that, unlike the older model, the 2024 NX Hybrid includes color-keyed elements on the glove box and the passenger-side center console, adding a touch of refinement to these often-overlooked spots.

As a six-foot-tall person, I had no problem entering or exiting the front of the 2024 NX Hybrid. When I sat in the driver’s seat, which is available with 8-way power adjustment, 4-way power lumbar support, heating, ventilation, and memory functions, I had adequate headroom and good under-thigh support. I do wish Lexus offered adjustable thigh cushions and inflatable side bolsters as well, though.
I had no issues with exterior visibility as such, but if I were asked if there was any room for improvement, I’d say the rear-quarter glass panels and windows were a little bigger. I found the compact steering wheel with thick padding good to hold, and with its power tilt and telescopic adjustment, heating, and memory functions, I think I’d have all the convenience and comfort I’d need in daily use.

In the back, too, I was fairly comfortable entering and exiting the 2024 NX Hybrid. Sitting behind the driver’s seat, which was still in my set position, I had a decent amount of legroom and knee room. There wasn’t much space left between my head and the roof, though, so I think taller passengers will not find themselves comfortable here. The backrest of the heated seat was set at a good angle and I did have the option to recline it, although not to a big extent.
The 2024 NX Hybrid features a power tailgate with a kick sensor and offers 22.7 cu. ft. of cargo volume, expandable to 46.9 cu. ft. by folding the rear seat. The cargo volume might not be impressive, but there are three underfloor storage places, one of which is particularly deep and wide and can be used to easily keep an extra duffel bag. I was quite disappointed to learn that Lexus doesn’t equip the 2024 NX Hybrid with a spare tire.

Driving impressions
The second-gen Lexus NX Hybrid has remained mechanically unchanged since its launch. It still has a 239 hp powertrain that gives it a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph. Similarly, the EPA-est. fuel economy continues to be 41 MPG (city)/37 MPG (highway)/39 MPG (combined).
Reviews from previous model years indicate that the NX Hybrid’s powertrain operates smoothly at city speeds, but under heavy loads, its noise does make it into the cabin. There’s some body roll, too, so dynamic driving isn’t the hybrid SUV’s forte. The regenerative and friction braking systems are synchronized properly, so the transition is noticeable. Those who have driven the car would also tell you that the NX Hybrid is built for driving softly, and when not pushed hard, it allows the occupants to enjoy a calm and smooth ride.

Price
The 2024 Lexus NX Hybrid retails at USD 44,615 (incl. USD 1,150 DPH fee).
TopElectricSUV says
The 2024 Lexus NX Hybrid is a recommendable choice for style, luxury, great fuel economy, and value for money. However, for those prioritizing performance, advanced features, and superior driving dynamics, there are more suitable alternatives in this segment.
