First Look Review: Can’t go far wrong with the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid

Introduced in November 2022, the 11th generation Honda Accord Hybrid has received its first update in the U.S. and become a MY2024 vehicle. The new hybrid mid-size sedan has started arriving at U.S. dealers, and I got an opportunity to explore it at the 2023 LA Auto Show. Here’s what I think about the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid from my time with the car in Los Angeles.

Design

The 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid may have been taken well by many, but to me, the design feels like a step backward from the previous generation.

I find the flatter front-end dull and uninspiring. I think the straight narrow headlamps and the rather simplistic bumper are a bit too simple and the hexagonal grille isn’t attractive either. Thanks to the long hood, fastback roofline, and sleek greenhouse, at least the side profile gives some style and elegance to the 2024 Accord Hybrid.

The shape of the rear-end is reminiscent of the Audi A7, especially the first-gen model. I see some resemblance with the European Toyota Corolla Hybrid (Prestige version), too, in the combination lamps, although I do like the thin light guides.

When I looked closely at the 2024 Accord Hybrid at the 2023 LA Auto Show, I found that the panel gaps on the mid-size sedan were mostly tight and uniformly aligned. The Marysville, Ohio-built hybrid car looked and felt like it was built to endure hundreds of thousands of miles.

Interior

Inside, form follows function, something that is typical of Japanese cars, especially Hondas. The 2024 Accord Hybrid follows the “simplicity and something” theme that Honda introduced with the eleventh-generation Civic in 2021. I like the wide dashboard, which features piano black trim and a stylish metal mesh accent from end to end. The latter subtly hides the air vents, leaving only the airflow direction adjusters exposed.

Another feature I like in the 2024 Accord Hybrid is the 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen infotainment system, which comes with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and OTA software update support, built-in Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play apps, and a physical volume knob.

The infotainment system has a simple menu structure, so I think first-time drivers would take no time getting accustomed to it. From my experience with the new Accord Hybrid, I can say that it was pretty snappy and easy to use. I found that the built-in Google Maps app quickly loads maps and gives an experience similar to smartphones.

The 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster of the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid has an average user interface, but scrolling through its menu is quick and simple. I find the 2025 Toyota Camry‘s 12.3-inch instrument cluster’s graphics comparatively more attractive.

The center console houses a conventional lever-type gear shifter, which, too, makes this an easy car for learning drivers. When I opened the storage box below the central armrest, I found that it was decently sized and big enough to keep things like a couple of tablet computers for the kids, a small bag of snacks or groceries, or a small handbag.

Honda is using physical controls for all the core multimedia and climate functions, in line with its motto of keeping car interiors practical and as less distractive for the driver as possible. The physical controls in the cabin are very premium in the way they feel to touch and use. The 2024 Accord Hybrid employs hard plastics in lesser-observed areas like the lower part of the dashboard and doors to cut costs.

I’m six feet tall, and had no issues with ingress or egress in the 2024 Accord Hybrid. The three-spoke steering wheel had a manually adjustable tilt and telescopic column with a moderate range of motion, but I was surprised to see it didn’t feature heating. The all-around visibility was quite good, despite the fastback roofline.

When I sat in the 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, which included 2-way power lumbar support, heating, ventilation, and 2-way memory functions, I had good under-thigh support and decent headroom. The bolstering wasn’t aggressive, so I think even well-built passengers would have no issues in the front.

In the back, where the car’s roofline slopes down aggressively, the headroom was tight for me. Strangely enough, only the front passenger’s seatback had a storage pocket. On the plus side, the rear seat offered loads of legroom and knee room and a decent under-thigh support as well. I also liked the fact that it had a heating function on the outboard positions. The rear seat was quite wide, so I think three adults could comfortably travel in the back of the 2024 Accord Hybrid.

The 2024 Accord Hybrid offers the same cargo volume as the gas-powered variant – 16.7 cu. ft. The generous trunk can easily fit long items like a golf bag. However, as it’s not very tall, it’s not possible to keep larger bags in a vertical position. Moreover, Honda doesn’t equip the car with a spare tire.

Driving impressions

The Honda Accord Hybrid has remained mechanically unchanged with the MY2024 update. Thus, it has the same 2.0-liter gas engine-based hybrid powertrain that produces a healthy 204 horsepower and delivers an impressive EPA-est. fuel economy of up to 51 MPG (city)/44 MPG (highway)/48 MPG (combined). It’s safe to assume that it offers the same driving experience and ride quality as in the previous model year.

The Accord Hybrid’s powertrain has more than sufficient power for urban driving conditions. It’s quite sensitive to throttle inputs, though, sending the gas engine into action with the slightest beyond-gentle press of the accelerator pedal.

Honda has tuned the chassis of the hybrid mid-size sedan to let enthusiastic drivers have some fun. The car keeps the body roll and wheel spins in check and feels quite stable. Its firm suspension setup does take a toll on the ride quality, though. The steering wheel, while responsive and precise, could provide better feedback. Additionally, some road and tire noise is noticeable inside the cabin at speed.

The prices of the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid range from USD 32,545 to USD 38,540 (excl. USD 1,095 DPH fee).

I feel that the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid isn’t a looker, but for a family sedan, it’s fun behind the wheel and offers the simplest and most practical interior in its segment. Its impressive fuel economy further adds to its appeal. Despite wishing for a more affordable starting price, I believe that the new Accord ranks among the best mid-size sedans in the U.S. for its balance between fuel efficiency and driving enjoyment.
