The EX90 is Volvo’s three-row, all-electric flagship SUV. Global retail sales totaled just 14,697 units from January-November 2025, with U.S. sales at 3,299 units.
The company has lined up a round of 2026 model year updates aimed at improving charging, performance, and onboard compute. Recently, we got to check out the current Mulberry Red EX90 Twin Performance fitted with a roof tent accessory, and here’s what we learned.
Roof tent (Volvo accessory, Thule-made)

Volvo offers a soft-shell roof tent in a dual-tone gray, designed for vehicles equipped with Volvo rails and load carriers. As per the Volvo Accessories website, it can house 2-3 people and includes a flat floor, mattress, panoramic window, mosquito net, and a removable rainfly.
The tent weighs 130 lb (58 kg), folds into a rainproof travel cover. Unfolding uses the included ladder and takes a few steps once the cover is removed, and when it is set up, measures 98.48 x 56.29 x 40.15 in.
Volvo’s accessories section says that the EX90 roof’s maximum load while driving is 220 lb (100 kg), and the stationary static capacity is 661 lb (300 kg), including the tent and carriers. While setting it up, it recommends that owners check the specific weight capacity for the EX90 in the owner’s manual.

Design

The EX90 uses a clean front “shield” in place of a traditional grille. The T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” headlamps sit high and wide, and the daytime running light signature is more pronounced than on recent Volvo models.
At the rear, the taillamps split into an upper vertical light element beside the back glass and a lower C-shaped section on the tailgate. A roof-mounted LiDAR pod is integrated above the windshield area.
Interior

A 15-inch portrait touchscreen dominates the center stack, paired with a compact digital instrument display. Google-based infotainment (Android Automotive) with built-in Google apps supports navigation, voice control, and app access. Material choices include FSC-certified wood trim and Volvo’s Nordico upholstery option.
For the 2026 model year, Volvo will add a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer rated at 500 TOPS to support expanded safety and driver-assist functions. Volvo says new capabilities include connected safety alerts for slippery roads and hazards, expanded automatic emergency steering in darkness, and Emergency Stop Assist with integrated automatic e-call.
Specifications

In the U.S., the EX90 is available in Twin Motor (408 hp, 770 Nm/568 lb-ft) and Twin Motor Performance (517 hp, 910 Nm/671 lb-ft) versions. 0-62 mph is 5.9 sec (Twin Motor) or 4.9 sec (Performance).
Battery capacity is 107 kWh (usable), with DC fast possible at up to 250 kW peak, achieving 10-80% SoC in 30 minutes. EPA range is 296-308 miles depending on version.
For the 2026 model year, Volvo will introduce an 800-volt electrical architecture. Volvo says it can add up to 155 miles of range in 10 minutes at a compatible 800-volt DC fast charger. It will also introduce a Single Motor variant, and will increase output for the Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance. Volvo says the 2026 EX90 Twin Motor Performance makes 670 hp.
Pricing

U.S. pricing (MSRP) of the 2025 EX90 begins at USD 81,290. As per Automotive News, the company won’t import the 2026 model into Canada due to the tariff complications with the U.S., where the EX90 is manufactured.
